SummaryA key member of the extended Business Area leadership team, with primary and global responsibility for managing the Company's technical accounting related matters, including revenue recognition, mergers and acquisitions, internal controls, business planning, budgeting, capital budgeting and other new accounting related matters. The Global Business Area Controller ensures externally reported financial statements and disclosures are prepared in compliance with US GAAP, SEC regulations, and Company policies. Will interact effectively with the global finance teams of the Business Area to provide guidance on accounting and financial reporting matters. Responsible for the overall technical accounting consultations regarding complex accounting transactions and performing research on new accounting issues. Will lead, drive, and support a high-performing global accounting team and actively develop finance talent.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Global responsibility for accounting and related matters (e.g., due diligence, valuation work with specialists, share purchase contract review) for legal entity mergers, divestitures, acquisitions.
  • Maintain thorough and current understanding of US GAAP. Keeps abreast of emerging accounting, reporting and disclosure standards. Implement new accounting pronouncements as necessary.
  • Oversight of internal controls program to ensure effectively designed and operating internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Oversee revenue recognition group and initiate process changes to improve the accuracy of revenue recognition.
  • Take a global leadership role in Finance cross functional projects such as post-acquisition integration, tax planning actions, capital/financing initiatives, and financial communications initiatives.
  • Play a global leadership role in initiating and implementing process changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Business Area Accounting and Finance functions.
  • Collaborate, work, and manage effectively across the company's functional organizations. Promote proactive and effective communication and coordination across groups, both internal and external to the Finance function, to improve efficiency and achieve desired results.
  • Serve as a visible and effective ambassador for the Vice President Biomedical Systems Business Area. Proactively ensure that important company and functional messages, including priorities and goals, are cascaded throughout the organization. Ensure team members clearly understand their roles and are motivated to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with the Business Groups, Global Business Support, Treasury, Tax, Financial Reporting and Planning, and other functions to ensure the quality, accuracy and consistency of the financial data reported in the general ledger and consolidation systems.
  • Provide input into Bruker's chart of accounts including reporting hierarchies to support proper management and external reporting requirements.
  • Guide the alignment, communication, and maintenance of a clear, well-coordinated and efficient closing process.
  • Assist in the SEC reporting process. Review of the Company's consolidated financial statements to ensure compliance with US GAAP.
  • Establishes, maintains, monitors, and updates the financial business plan for the Biomedical Systems Business Area. Integrates approved and pending capital budgeting and new business development financial data into the business plan and financial model.
  • Leads the development of the annual budget and provides regular forecasts and updates of performance against the budget. Collaborates with global teams, department heads, and others to gather data for all strategic financial planning and budgeting activities. Makes strategic financial recommendations based on historic performance and future strategic initiatives.
  • Works closely with the Vice President Biomedical Systems and others to develop strategy and oversee planned business development. Works with business development and product management to model and simulate future financial outcomes. Routinely manages all capital budgeting activities related to new business development.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required. Master's degree preferred. CPA with 5-10 years. Big 4 work experience preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years recent and relevant Finance leadership work experience within a public global life sciences, medical devices, or biotech work environment.
  • Proven ability to work closely and effectively with business leaders on accounting policies, technical accounting, M&A, and related topics.
  • Viewed as a trusted advisor, partner, and change agent by other executives, particularly in the business. Able to maneuver through complex organizational and political issues and gain agreement and alignment. Diplomatically handles complex topics, varied audiences, difficult questions, and continuous objections. Effectively negotiates with internal and external audiences. Able to be direct, diplomatic, and win concessions while building relationships.
  • Demonstrates executive presence with capability of representing the Vice President Business Area and leadership team in high-visibility settings.
  • Focuses on continuous process improvement and is known for finding new and improved ways of doing things. Can simplify complex processes, see, and proactively communicate improvement opportunities. Actively monitors and measures results with appropriate metrics.
  • Strong and solid understanding of major drivers of the business area's business environment. Demonstrates a broad understanding of Bruker's markets/products and industry dynamics. Identifies activities that create enterprise value by improving the company's growth, profitability and/or cash flow performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly with colleagues on initiatives, vision, strategy, and goals.
  • Excellent oral, written, computer, technical, quantitative, and proposal communication and presentation skills with proven ability to prepare and deliver concise and polished documents, reports, and presentations
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and SAP. BPC knowledge preferred

  • Expert knowledge of US GAAP accounting regulations and company accounting policies and internal controls, and unquestioned integrity in the application of such standards. Demonstrates thought leadership in finance standards and practices; applies knowledge to improve the function and company. Uses expertise to educate and influence executives outside of finance.
  • Advanced business acumen and analytical capabilities with excellent judgment. Ability to develop an in-depth knowledge of Bruker markets/ products and industry trends quickly. Capable of understanding the business need, supporting their requirements, and delivering practical results. Proven ability to think strategically about business issues.
