JOB DESCRIPTION

BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The Global Safety Specialist leads efforts of the safety and health programs in order to create a safe work environment for all associates and meeting all compliance requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates and helps to lead all day-to-day CFC and Regional Global Safety functions such as:

* Safety and Health regulatory compliance to applicable Federal (USA - OSHA, DOT, CAN or UK equivalent regulations) State and/or local regulations, Safety & Health assessments, ergonomic improvements/issues, safety equipment selection, safety awareness, safety team mentoring, Safety & Health training, Emergency Preparedness, Workers Compensation support for claims and issues and return to work, Incident investigation and corrective action follow-up.

Conducts Risk Analysis and Develops and Implements Actions to remove or mitigate risk

* Based upon risk analysis, may be tasked with developing and implementing new programs that apply to MSC locations.

* Designs, tests, and implements risk reduction and cost avoidance techniques, monitoring those techniques to ensure compliance.

* Performs regulatory and other audits at the base CFC and other MSC locations.

* Supports Regional Sales and Field Leadership with Safety programs and initiatives.

Conducts Follow-up Incident Investigations and Supports Workers Compensation Cases

* Coordinates claims loss analysis evaluations for associates in conjunction with corporate claims management efforts.

* Reviews injury and incident investigation information to conduct analysis and follow-up, as necessary.

* Collaborates with Leadership to recommend engineering and/or other solutions to avoid similar incidents in the future.

* Develops and manages a partnership with local Occupational Clinics.

* Facilitates Return to Work programs.

Implements and Supports Global Safety Programs at the CFCs as well as with Sales and Field Leadership

* Programs include but are not limited to: Powered Industrial Trucks, Lockout Tagout, Electrical Safety, Hazard Communication, Conveyor Safety, Manual Material Handling, Personal Protective Equipment, Fall Protection, Aerial Lift Safety, Emergency Action Plans, Crisis Management Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, Machine Guarding, Ladder Safety, Specialization in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety Science, Safety Engineering or Environmental Health is preferred.

* Ergonomics, Safety Awareness and Attitude, Pollution Prevention, Environmental, Compliance and Sustainability (EC&S) initiatives.

Liaises and supports third party audits (i.e. Workers Compensation and Property Insurance Carriers) and develops responses to address identified concerns.

Conducts and reviews effectiveness of Global Safety Training Programs (conducted by MSC training department or third-party training programs).

* Represents the MSC Safety effort as a field trainer/coordinator for CFC and Regional areas of support.

Develops local relationships and maintains an on-going presence with CFC and assigned Regions using the following skill sets

* Communicates to all stakeholders in written and verbal communication on regulatory affairs.

* Understands and applies knowledge of computer databases to ensure regulatory compliance.

* Researches and interprets regulatory data and information utilizing the Internet and other available resources.

* Sets, follows, and meets project timelines.

* Participates in cross-functional meetings.

* Participates in special projects as assigned by the Manager, Global Safety and performs additional duties as required.

* Attends training and education seminars as appropriate to learn regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

* Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC's vision and unity of purpose.

* Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

What You Need:

* Bachelor of Science degree or the equivalent experience is required.

* Zero to three years safety/environmental health experience required.

* Excellent time management and organizational skills are required.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

* Intermediate level of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) required.

* Speaking and presenting to all levels of management.

* Must posses creative, initiative and collaborative influential skills.

* Data entry skills are required.

Bonus Points If You Have:

* Specialization in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety Science, Safety Engineering or Environmental Health is preferred.

* Safety experience in manufacturing or warehousing is preferred.

* Working knowledge of Industrial Hygiene is preferred.

* Understanding of Workers Compensation System is preferred.

Other Requirements:

* A valid driver's license may be required.

* Position requires up to 30% of travel

* Ability to be flexible with schedule regarding shifts, weekend work and as requested by Management.

SALARY:

Compensation starting at $56,280 - $88,440 depending on experience.

The salary range represented is based on similar roles in comparable industries, and the cost of labor in respective cities. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's relevant experience, education requirements and peer pay equity. The Company reserves the right to modify the range as market conditions change.
