Summary

The Gluer Operator position supports the manufacturing process the plant operations. The primary responsibility of the position is to operate the gluer. The Gluer Operator starts the machine when all sections are set up and all team members are aware of intention to start. Upon startup of gluer, the Gluer Operator will check cartons for proper folding of creases, caliper and bond as well as check for marks or other defects. The Gluer Operator continuously checks the cartons for defects – cracking, gluing, printing and caliper, etc. If defects are found, the Gluer Operator will stop the machine, if necessary, and make corrective adjustments.

Responsibilities
  • Performs as a capable trainer.
  • Ability to efficiently assign employees to positions for that work shift.
  • Will be required to instruct employees in proper operator and feeder/packer duties.
  • Ability to distinguish quality deficiencies which may occur in Die Cutting or Printing, before running the cartons for gluing.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow through with special instructions noted on job tickets.
  • Ability to communicate these instructions and job changes to other employees working on the machine.
  • Possesses knowledge of all equipment and machinery in the Gluing Department.
  • Performs proper set-up and maintenance of gluing machines to prepare them to run that shift.
  • Ability to determine which style of carton is to be run, which machine would most efficiently complete the job, and determine which finished cartons meet quality standards.
  • Must be capable of keeping accurate records, including the completion of all required forms, and the accurate use of different measuring devices, and all other applicable gauges for your responsibilities.
  • Must follow all applicable procedures and make recommendations for system improvements as identified.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); AND two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in the folding carton industry.
