POSITION SUMMARY: Residency nurses will initiate professional nursing practice careers in a supportive environment committed to mentoring, coaching and learning. They will build confidence through a structured, professional transition-into-practice experience that is customized to individual developmental needs. They will also develop leadership skills that will positively impact the clinical practice environment and patient outcomes.They will provide safe and effective nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process. Must practice nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse during their orientation period.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS: - High School/GED required.
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
- Temporary GN permit or RN license from the State of Texas prior to beginning employment required.
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS or PALS certification within six (6) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department)
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Nights and/or weekend work will be required
- Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred
JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: - New graduate nurse or RN with less than 12 months experience
- RN with limited or no hospital experience
- Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.
- POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
- Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area
- Assesses patients' needs for nursing care and other services
- Collaborates with physicians, other services, patients and patients' families to plan care and evaluate outcomes
- Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies and actively participates in data collection for current studies
- Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies
- Ensures integration of safety and quality standards into practice and delivery of team care
- Documents care according to established standards
- Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems
- Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services
- Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights
- Organizes and prioritizes work of patient care team
- Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources
- Effectively and consistently functions in related roles as required, e.g., charge nurse, preceptor or protocol manager
- Other duties as assigned.
