Promote a diverse, culturally competent, and respectful workplace.Oversee the maintenance operations of a County golf course by ensuring the healthy growth of the golf course grounds grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials.Supervise the maintenance operations of a County golf course by planning work schedules, assigning jobs to subordinate employees and conducting orientation and training. Supervise/oversee new construction and course modifications with outside contractors. Assign and train personnel to improve playing conditions of the course and implement internal projects for course improvement.Prepare requisitions for the purchase of equipment and supplies and maintain an adequate supply of necessary tools and supplies for course maintenance.Diagnose turf grass diseases, insect and weed infestations.Periodically repair golf course equipment by replacing broken parts or upgrading equipment.Make budget recommendations to the Director of Operations related to personnel, supplies, services, and equipment needs for the upcoming year.Recommend course alteration and design changes for greens, tees, fairways and other lawn areas in order to improve playing conditions of the course.Determine whether the grounds are in suitable playing condition and when their use, including golf carts, should be prohibited.Keep records and make written reports on golf course operations, maintenance, and related matters.Communicate and maintain relationships with internal and external customers. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate Degree in Turf Management or a related field. Experience: Five years of experience in golf course maintenance. Substitution: Additional education in turf management or a related field may substitute on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience. An additional two years of relevant experience may substitute for one year of the required education. Certifications/Licensure: Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must have a valid Minnesota Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator License or meet the requirements for licensure in another state that can be transferred to Minnesota. Exam/Screening Process Information The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:

The examination for Golf Course Superintendent will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions - do not mark see resume or see work history as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination. Eligible List: The names of all applicants who filed a properly completed application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as Golf Course Superintendent. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 60 days or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been certified and their status.The highest scoring 20 names of all applicants who pass the examination with a score of 70 or higher will be forwarded to the department for further consideration.
