SummaryThis position is responsible for and actively administers all facets of the maintenance, operations and management of the physical golf course and related facilities/equipment. Responsible for the high-quality maintenance of the play areas and landscapes in which golfers interact. Utilizes the United States Golf Association's (UGSA) best practices to establish healthy greens and fairways in order to maintain a high level of playability. Directly responsible for turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property and asset management, personnel management, budgeting and forecasting, financial management, member relations, scheduling, irrigation systems, pesticide applications, and compliance of regulatory issues. This position will oversee an 18-hole, par 72 championship course, an 18-hole Par-3, an aqua range, a grass range, a 35,000 square foot putting green, multiple short game areas, a 19th hole island green, and any/all additional turf areas, planned or currently located on property. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:This position is supervised by the General ManagerEssential Function Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the planning and directing of all related maintenance activities of the turf, landscape, facilities, and equipment to ensure that the highest quality of golf is provided to customers
- Responsible for the daily direction of the golf maintenance staff including their productivity levels and adherence to golf maintenance practices
- Manages assigned staff accordingly to follow City policies, applicable contracts and good leadership standards
- Conducts counseling and coaching functions to support the development of staff
- Utilizes best management practices and USGA standards to protect the golf property from deteriorating; observes and quickly formulates action plans to address golf turf issues
- Interviews and recommends staff for open positions; trains and supervises staff for the purpose of maintaining the golf property
- Plans and coordinates the contractual work of others to supplement golf maintenance activities
- Recognizes, recommends and plans for annual projects, capital improvements, and repairs that will enhance the playability of the golf course
- Responsible for the oversight of the golf facility and equipment maintenance; directs appropriate staff and coordinates work with others in order to accomplish repairs and routine maintenance
- Recommends annual budget for the golf maintenance operations and capital improvements to the course; implements the budget in a prudent and successful manner
- Acquires equipment and purchases necessary to conduct responsibilities utilizing best management practices, following the City's purchasing policies and procedures and with the direction and approval of the General Manager
- Responsible for the accurate and complete recordkeeping of personnel, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, chemical applications, etc., according to retention laws and applicable operating permits
- Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications including fertilizers and pesticides on the club's grounds in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations; furthermore, an emphasis should be placed on receiving/maintaining an Audubon Sanctuary Certificate in one or more of the six recognized categories
- Responsible for the compliance of all operating permits for the golf course
- Acts as a responsible member of the management team ensuring that all golf course operations are functioning at a high level; responsible for the management of the overall course operations in the absence of the General Manager
- Monitors revenue and expenses for the golf maintenance budget to ensure compliance with proposed budget and purchasing guidelines
- Accountable for recognizing budget issues and developing corrective action recommendations to insure fiscal responsibility
- Responsible for the fiscal control of expenditures in the area of responsibility; ensures responsible spending, adherence to the purchasing policies and the efficient use of materials and supplies
- Responsible for sharing vital information about the golf turf or maintenance activities with the General Manager in a timely manner so that those in Administration can be informed of pending issues
- Communicates with golf staff and members of the public, sharing information about the course and increasing their knowledge of maintenance activities; responsible for coordinating with the Pro-Shop and Starter, planned maintenance in advance, to ensure effective communication occurs between customers and staff
- Responsible for providing feedback and oversight on any and all future projects that involve the expansion or renovation of the facilities and amenities and attend applicable meetings as assigned
- Responsible for responding after hours, on weekends and holidays when issues arise
- Performs duties as assigned during emergency response conditions and will act as a member of the Emergency Management team for the City when Emergency Management Operations are activated pre, during, or post storm or disaster; FEMA training is required, and all members of EM team will be responsible for division oversight and may be activated to their post for up to three days
- Responsible for implementing best, safe practices following OSHA/MSDS Guidelines
- Performs any other duties as required or assigned

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate's Degree with major coursework in turf management, horticulture, and/or golf course management
- Bachelor's Degree in golf turf management, golf operations, or in a related field preferred
- Five (5) years golf course maintenance or related experience, with supervisory experience
- Advanced knowledge and application of agronomy and turfgrass management practices; a working knowledge of golf facility construction principals, practices, and methods, or
- Any related combination of education, training and experience
Special Qualifications/Preferences
- Valid State of Florida Pesticide Applicators License applicable for golf courses
- Valid State of Florida driver's license with good driving record
- CPR Certification
- GCSAA Certification preferred
