POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dental Assistant - Trainee, under the direction of the Dental Director or Chief Solo Dentist, is responsible for performing a variety of record-keeping, filing, and clinical maintenance duties in the dental clinic. The position is responsible for training in chair-side dental assisting on the job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
* Learn to perform chairside dental assisting.
* Welcomes and seats patients, takes vitals, and helps arrange follow-up care.
* Maintains and sterilizes dental equipment.
* Retrieves and stores dental records.
* Stocks and disposes of dental materials.
* Assists in the recording/charting of dental information within Dentrix.
* Disinfects and packages dental models and impressions for delivery to dental laboratories.
* Follows infection control protocols and procedures.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (includes, but is not limited to, the following)
* All other job-related duties as assigned.

Immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate supervisor/manager, managers in other departments, customers, and outside vendors/service providers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Position medium with lifting of 50 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds. Physical factors include constant manual handling, use of hearing, near/midrange/far vision, depth perception, color/field of vision; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping and kneeling, and typing. Working conditions include frequent noise and vibration exposure and occasional air quality exposure. Potential hazards include constant infectious exposure, patient contact, equipment use, frequent exposure to chemicals, needles/syringes, and computer and medical equipment use. Personal protection equipment provided by the employer includes items such as, but not limited to, gloves, gowns, laboratory coats, face shields, masks, eye protection, mouthpieces, resuscitation bags, pocket masks, ventilation devices, and other equipment as needed. Immunizations, including the Hepatitis B vaccination series (free to team members).
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: No experience needed.
Certification/License: Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public. Must have excellent public relations/customer service skills and be able to exhibit a friendly and positive attitude. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must maintain strict confidentiality. Native American preferred.
