Job Description:

The Office of Multi-ethnic Student Education (OMSE) offers a variety of services and programs to enhance the academic experience of diverse student populations at the University of Maryland. The mission of OMSE is to serve undergraduate multi-ethnic students to increase rates of matriculation, retention, graduation, and overall GPA. As an academic unit under the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI), OMSE recognizes the value of the multiple histories, beliefs and ethnic backgrounds of our students and works with faculty and staff to support ethnic diversity and inclusion at the university.

The College Success Scholars (CSS) program serves as a resource for Black and Latino males from Summer Seminar prior to their first semester to graduation. The CSS program provides structured personal, academic and professional support to ensure retention, proactive engagement in internships, education abroad, research and all aspects of the University community. The curriculum is centered on supporting the brilliance of the scholars and developing resiliency, agency, purpose and brotherhood. This graduate assistant (GA) will support the coordination and facilitation of the College Success Scholars' program. The GA will report to the director of OMSE and support the program as follows:

* Monitoring the daily/weekly progress of participants to ensure program compliance;

* Ensuring program forms are completed in an efficient manner;

* Support facilitation of academic and professional development workshops and programs;

* Serving as a goodwill ambassador and disseminating information about the program throughout the university community;

* Serving as a liaison to parents and maintaining the CSS website;

* Assisting with identifying professional and career opportunities for Scholars;

* Assisting with establishing and implementing short and long range advising strategies to exceed target goals;

* Assisting students in achieving academic excellence and degree requirements at the University of Maryland;

* Providing administrative support for the UNIV 100, Fall and Spring Seminar Courses;

* Supervising undergraduate team leader, as assigned;

* Advising the CSS Team Leaders and Executive Board;

* Coordinating the Road Map to Success program; working collaboratively with the director to advance programmatic effectiveness, innovation, and visibility;

* Providing coverage at and assisting with CSS meetings and annual events;

* Providing coverage at and support with OMSE Signature events, including but not limited to, Meet and Greet, Giving Day, Academy of Excellence Awards (AAEA), Maryland Day, Homecoming Chili+Wing fest;

* Work all scheduled office hours in person;

* Attend mandatory and non-mandatory meetings, trainings, and events as requested

* Other related duties as assigned.

This graduate assistantship will require weekly evening coverage and occasional weekend work.
