Job Description:
A successful Graduate Assistant in the Housing and Residence Life department shall play an active role in FMU's Division of Student Affairs and collaborate with staff and administration to ensure students are provided with opportunities and services to help them succeed on campus, in their residencehalls, and on the campus community. The Graduate Assistant shall serve in an on-call rotation capacity with other housing and residence life staff.Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external constituents. This includes having professional interactions with the administration, staff, students, and the University Community.
  • Demonstrate a professional commitment to the overall development and success of students on campus.
  • Possess a strong work ethic, organizational skills, time management, customer service, and a positive team mindset.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation with other housing and residence life staff.
  • Requires a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the on-campus housing population.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Housing and Residence Life Department.
  • The omission of specific duties does not preclude the department head from assigning tasks that logically relate to the position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.
  • Must have experience working directly and effectively with college students.
  • Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents.
  • Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
  • Knowledge of university housing operations and procedures, including matters of conduct, work orders, policies, and programming are key.
  • Experience with crisis management and risk reduction practices is desirable.
  • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Qualifications:
  • Students must be admitted into a Florida Memorial University master's degree program.
  • The position requires a bachelor's degree.
  • Prior experience as a student leader, resident assistant, campus activities leader, and student government preferred.
  • This position offers and requires the successful candidate to occupy an on campus living space within a residence hall.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
  • Extensive hours including nights and weekends will be required at times.
