Masland Library Graduate Assistant 2024-25The Masland Library is pleased to present an opportunity for a Graduate Assistantship. The department is seeking to hire immediately.The Graduate Assistant serves as a key player within the Masland Library team, responsible for ensuring access to resources and library services to our academic community. This role involves assisting the librarians in managing the circulation desk, interlibrary loan, and course reserves, as well as providing essential support to students, faculty, and staff. The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, a customer-focused mindset, and a dedication to promoting access to information.
Position Responsibilities: - Collaborate with the dean to establish a timeline for textbook selection.
- Compile and maintain the course list based on the registrar's draft roster and the AA's course list.
- Manage and update course information on LibGuide pages.
- Input textbook selections into FAST.
- Facilitate the final approval process for course selections.
- Ensure that courses and textbooks are available on eCampus by the first day of registration, in compliance with the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008 (Section 133).
- Handle updates, changes, and any courses marked as TBD.
- Communicate with eCampus regarding textbook and course updates
- Provide support to students regarding textbook-related inquiries and issues.
Additional Responsibilities Outside Textbook Season: - Interlibrary Loan: Assist with the interlibrary loan process, including borrowing and lending materials between libraries.
- Front Desk Coverage: Provide coverage at the front desk, handling inquiries and assisting library patrons.
- Basic Reference Appointments: Once trained, conduct basic reference appointments to help patrons with research and information retrieval.
Qualities & Qualifications: - Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with the public.
- Previous employment in a library setting, especially within an academic library, is preferred.
- Physical strength and mobility are necessary to retrieve and shelve materials up to 84 high and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
General Information - Graduate AssistantshipsGraduate Assistantships (GAs) are available to a limited number of Cairn full-time graduate students who have the skills and abilities to fulfill a professional position on a part-time basis during their period of study. Work duties may or may not be directly-related to a GA's program of study. Unless a specific GA position requires the GA to work year-round, the duration of a Graduate Assistantship may be for a minimum period of one semester (summer, fall, spring) and for a maximum period of semesters required for the GA to complete his/her degree program, enrolled on a full-time basis (6 or 9 credit hours depending on graduate program requirements), during applicable fall and spring semesters. To be eligible for a GA position, the student must have already earned a bachelor's degree and be enrolled in a Cairn master's degree program. Dual-level Cairn students may not be considered for GA positions.
