Job Description:

LOCATION: Engagement & Development Services – 900 Watervliet-Shaker RoadBASIC FUNCTION:The grant writer works to locate grant funds for which school districts, municipalities and/or the BOCES is eligible and prepares applications for such grant funds. Performs other duties as directed by the Program Manager.RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepares and submits grant applications to funding entities.Researches grant opportunities that fit the school district/municipality/BOCES needs.Receives input either directly or from school district, municipality and/or BOCES personnel concerning priorities for funding.Working with the relevant department(s), researches the information necessary to write grant applications.Determines eligibility for the grant program.Presents workshops to school district/municipality staff as needed.Attends meetings and workshops as needed to maintain an appropriate level of awareness of new funding resources.Deals with funding entities on follow-up material or clarifications as needed.Prepares interim and close-out reports for funding entities on projects undertaken with grant funds.Basic working knowledge of school districts and municipalities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to conduct research necessary to support grant applications in multiple areas of school district and municipality operations.Capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously.Job Qualifications+ + Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of experience in grants writing, grants management, grant application review, economic development, marketing, communications, or public policy development; OR,Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree and two (2) years of experience as described above.The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title . This is a NY HELPS (Hiring Emergency Limited Placement) Program designated title. NY HELPS is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the NY HELPS Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a HELPS Program position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status.
