Values that drive our work include equality, fairness, diversity, and empathy.Whom We SeekHispanic Federation seeks a Grants Accountant to perform the accounting and financial service functions for programs funded by grants, contracts, or other significant contributions from both private and public sectors. The Grant Accountant will prepare financial projections and budgets, report on actual against budgeted expenses, review and monitor to ensure compliance requirements are met, oversee journal entries, and execute financial reporting as needed. The Grant Accountant will verify budget proposals for grant applications in collaboration with the Development Department and will provide critical reporting used by leadership in the Finance Department, Executive Leadership, and HF's Board of Directors.The successful candidate is detail-oriented, a self-starter, and able to accurately complete a range of administrative and financial tasks necessary for successful and timely reporting of grants. This position reports to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. The entire HF finance team works closely together to meet financial reporting objectives, so a collaborative attitude is required.The position is hybrid and requires onsite presence in the New York City Office a minimum of 10 days per month in adherence to HF's hybrid work policy.Position Location: New York, NYEssential Functions
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grant portfolio, including preparing annual and project budgets, forecasting revenue, estimating any carry-over of funds from one year to the next.
  • Support in the management of private corporations, individuals, and foundations, in addition to public sector funds.
  • Perform services on a cost-reimbursement for grants; execute accounting functions for all grants and contracts.
  • Research issues, prepares invoices/ billings, and collects funds for the support of restricted fund expenditures.
  • Assist in preparing all relevant fiscal reports for sponsored programs; ensure the timely submission of all reports, as requested or required.
  • Coordinate with key personnel at all levels of the organization to support the proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.
  • Meet with program staff to monitor program budgets and reconcile program expense tracking and the finance office expense tracking.
  • Develop positive working relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight.
  • Calculate, prepare, and submit the annual indirect cost rate as required and manage costs across assigned grants portfolio.
  • Attend professional development training and remain abreast of public sector compliance announcements and their applicability to grant management-related audit, federal regulations, state laws, organizational policies, and any workshops or seminars on grants or special revenues.
  • Compile year-end reports, work papers, and analysis necessary for the organization's auditors to complete the yearly audit of HF's financial statements.
  • Review and approve grant-related journal entries and monitor charges for reasonableness and compliance with organization policies and procedures.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of bank accounts as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or nonprofit financial management, an advanced degree is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of nonprofit accounting experience or experience managing grants and financial reporting; the ideal experience includes processing complex financial transactions, ensuring compliance with legal or contractual requirements, recordkeeping, and preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting.
  • Experience using MIP Fund Accounting or similar nonprofit accounting software is required.
  • Commitment to HF's mission of supporting Latino communities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills is required, bilingual in English and Spanish is an asset.
  • Proven track record of grants management, familiarity local (DYCD, DOHMH), state (DOH, Department of Education) and federal funding and their regulations is an asset.
  • Skill in researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial data.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications, including comprehensive databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software.
  • Ability to prioritize and self-direct, analyze situations, identify situations where appropriate to make decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to establish and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
  • High attention to detail, ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy.
CompensationThe salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 and is commensurate with experience.
