The Housing Authority of Champaign County (HACC) is a dynamic organization dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing opportunities for individuals and families in Champaign County, Illinois. We are committed to fostering vibrant communities through innovative housing solutions and supportive services.We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Grant Accountant to join our finance team. The Grant Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of grants awarded to the Housing Authority of Champaign County and HACC's YouthBuild. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring that grant funds are utilized effectively and in compliance with regulatory requirements.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:Oversee the financial management of grants received by the Housing Authority, including federal, state, and private grants.Assist in the development of grant budgets in collaboration with program managers and grant administrators.Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for grantors, ensuring compliance with grant agreements and reporting requirements.Monitor grant expenditures and revenue to ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines and grant regulations.Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines governing grant funds, including those set forth by federal, state, and local agencies.Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard grant funds and mitigate financial risks.Assist in the preparation for and coordination of grant-related audits, providing necessary documentation and support to auditors.Serve as a liaison between the finance department and program managers to provide financial guidance and support related to grant management.Maintain accurate and organized records of grant-related financial transactions, contracts, and correspondence.Other Duties:Assist with special projects and initiatives as assigned by the Director of Finance.Collaborate with other departments as needed to support organization-wide goals and objectives.Stay informed about changes in grant regulations and accounting standards and provide recommendations for process improvements.Participate in cross-functional teams or committees to address organizational needs and challenges.Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as necessary to support the overall mission and operations of the Housing Authority of Champaign County.Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or advanced degree preferred.Minimum of 2 years of experience in grant accounting or financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or public sector organization.Strong understanding of grant accounting principles, regulations, and compliance requirements.Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel.Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Physical Demands:To perform this job successfully, the employee is frequently required to remain in a stationary position.Daily movements include sitting; standing; operating computers and other office equipment; moving about the office.Must be able to travel between different worksites and attend offsite meetings/events.Must be able to communicate via email and verbally via telephone and video conference software (ie Zoom or Teams).The employee may occasionally transport up to 20 pounds.Must be able to work in a deadline-focused and fast-paced environment.Must be able to pass a drug screening test administered by HACC's designated provider.Valid State Issued Driver's license and be insurable under the agency's commercial insurance policy.Work Environment:Generally works in an office environment.
