JOB SUMMARY:

The Grants and Contracts Specialist I supports the Office of Sponsored Programs and contributes to the pre-award and programmatic activities at the institutional level for all federal, state, and private foundation research grants. The position ensures compliance with all federal, sponsor, and institutional policies and guidelines as well as serves as a liaison between faculty, The University of Texas at Tyler, and sponsors.

The position supports the university in a variety of other research initiatives and is business transactional in nature in a high volume, deadline driven work environment. It requires good reading, writing, and organizational skills, the ability to analyze and problem solve, and a high degree of flexibility in being able to respond to a fast-paced work environment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:

* Reviews, submits, and tracks budget and administrative sections of grant applications and progress reports using internal and external sites and databases.

* Reviews, negotiates, tracks, and follows the execution of subaward agreements.

* Processes research awards and prepares accounting information for the post award team.

* Attends weekly office meetings and organizes monthly/quarterly workshops.

* Monitors office email and ensure communications are responded to in a timely manner.

* Maintains special tracking systems and follow detailed checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance.

* Other job-related duties as assigned.

ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

* Ability to utilize multiple systems for work, including PeopleSoft and Cayuse.

* Strong numerical proficiency, good organizational and problem-solving skills, and excellent use of logic.

* Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data and complete work assignments.

* Ability to deliver quality work with tight deadlines, with strong organizational and priority setting skills.

* Proven technological skills and the ability to lead the institution in automation initiatives.

* Collaboration style that emphasizes teamwork, communication, trust, and patience.

* Professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion in handling confidential information

REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in the relevant field.

* Three (3) years' relevant experience.

* May accept a combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Research administrative work experience in academic research setting.

* Experience working with budgets.

* Contract management and negotiation experience.

* Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

* Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC).
