We're seeking a talented and innovative Graphic Designer to join a large digital media company. Based in New York and working in a hybrid capacity, you'll collaborate with editorial teams to create bespoke art that elevates visual storytelling across this media site and its off-platform audiences. This is a unique opportunity for your work to be seen by millions daily, contributing to global news coverage and franchise storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Visual Storytelling: Transform complex news stories into compelling visual experiences to complement editorial content.
- Illustration: Create custom editorial illustrations for articles across various verticals (e.g., breaking news, politics, travel, science).
- Graphic Design: Design bespoke visuals for digital and off-platform audiences using exceptional design skills.
- Feature Design: Develop user-friendly, responsive layouts for interactive features on web and mobile platforms. Produce mockups and prototypes to enhance reader engagement.
- Branding: Strengthen vertical-specific branding by creating and maintaining visual design languages.
- Creative Strategy: Work closely with editorial teams to conceptualize and develop visual narratives for impactful storytelling.
- Collaboration: Partner with writers, editors, developers, and other designers to ensure cohesive visual presentations tailored to diverse platforms.
- Project Management: Proactively pitch and develop visual stories, handle multiple projects under tight deadlines, and effectively communicate with stakeholders.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Education/Experience: BFA in Graphic Design or equivalent work experience.
- Portfolio: Strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, graphic design, and self-initiated projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Front-end development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to collaborate effectively with developers.
- Proficiency in digital tools for graphic design and prototyping.
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
- Clear communication and openness to feedback.
- Preferred Experience:
- Previous work with news or editorial organizations.
- Established network within the graphic design and art industries.
