Job Summary: We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to our patients. The Veterinary Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including animal care, client communication, and assisting with medical procedures. - Animal Care:
- Assist in the care and handling of animals, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Feed, water, and exercise animals as directed.
- Monitor the health and behavior of animals and report any concerns to the veterinary team.
- Medical Assistance:
- Prepare animals for examinations and procedures.
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and surgeries.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood draws and urine analysis.
- Fill prescriptions as directed
- Client Communication:
- Greet clients and their pets, providing a friendly and professional atmosphere.
- Educate clients on basic animal care, preventive health measures, and postoperative care.
- Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and follow up with clients regarding their pets' health and appointments.
- Facility Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment in the clinic, including examination rooms, kennels, and waiting areas.
- Sterilize instruments and equipment.
- Restock supplies and ensure that all areas of the clinic are well-maintained and organized.
- Record Keeping:
- Update and maintain patient records with accurate information.
- Assist with inventory management including receiving and stocking supplies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience working with animals, preferably in a veterinary setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
- Basic understanding of animal behavior and medical terminology.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Physical ability to lift and restrain animals of various sizes.
- Willingness to work Saturdays as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Veterinary Assistant (e.g., AVA, CVA).
- Experience with Cornerstone is a plus
Working Conditions:
- The role involves working in a veterinary clinic environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bites, and scratches.
- Requires standing for extended periods, lifting heavy animals, and working in a noisy environment.
