Greenhouse and Landscape Supervisor, Grounds Operations
Job Description
The Greenhouse and Landscape Supervisor oversees Fort Hays State University's greenhouse operations and landscape maintenance, supporting the university's commitment to creating a sustainable, aesthetically pleasing campus environment. This role manages greenhouse staff and student workers, ensuring effective horticultural practices, landscaping, and grounds maintenance. The supervisor also collaborates with the Grounds Manager to support campus-wide initiatives and maintain campus landscaping to high standards.
Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent as well as three years of relevant experience. Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications:
* 1+ years of Supervisory Experience
* 3+ years of hands-on experience in greenhouse management and landscaping.
* Pesticide Applicators License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Strong understanding of greenhouse systems, horticulture practices, and landscape management.
* Knowledge of pest management and irrigation systems.
* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to train and manage a diverse team.
* Strong organizational and project management skills, with attention to detail.
Appointment Date: Start Date will be determined after acceptance of an offer.

Salary: $17.50
Working Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday through Friday 8:00 AM- 4:30 PM

Responsibilities:
* Supervise daily greenhouse activities, including plant propagation, care, and environmental control.
* Plan and manage the greenhouse schedule, plant inventory, plant purchasing, and supplies.
* Implement pest management practices to maintain plant health.
* Oversee landscaping and horticulture activities across campus, ensuring high-quality aesthetic and functional outcomes.
* Coordinate seasonal planting, pruning, mulching, and de-weeding.
* Lead, train, and schedule greenhouse staff and student workers.
* Provide guidance on best practices for plant care, greenhouse management, and landscape management.
* Work closely with the Grounds Manager and other departments to coordinate landscape projects and seasonal campus beautification efforts.
* Assist in developing and managing the greenhouse and landscaping budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
* Support special events with additional landscaping and grounds needs as required.
Physical Requirements:
* Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
* Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
* Ability to stand, bend, kneel and walk for extended periods.
