Purpose: To assist and support the Grocery Manager and staff with the daily operations of the department, taking on full responsibilities when the Grocery Manager is absent. Organizing store inventory, and monitoring product quality. Uphold high standards of customer service, and responding to customer complaints/questions when necessary. Assist the Manager in providing leadership and vision to help achieve organizational goals. To create a hospitable environment that welcomes everyone.

Status: Level IV, Assistant Manager, Supervised by Grocery Manager

Responsibilities:

MANAGERIAL/DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS

  • Communicate and set priorities with department Leads and Team Members, utilizing various techniques such as department huddles and weekly meetings.
  • Assist in the overall coordination, direction and evaluation of departmental activities and provide Grocery Manager with any recommendations.
  • Support scheduling, to include handling call-offs and absences in department.
  • Ensure departmental staff follow policies and procedures.
  • Maintain stocking standards and assist as needed to support the timeliness of department needs.
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and rotated to ensure freshness.
  • Ensure displays and shelves are clean and well organized.
  • Ensure endcaps are displayed and rotated on a regular basis.
  • Maintain shelf allotment and shelf tagging and ensure the products are placed in right place with appropriate labels.
  • Ensure and maintain the department in a clean, safe and organized fashion.
  • Take the lead in providing departmental staff training, to include supporting staff to attend and participate in storewide training.
  • See that unsaleable items are properly disposed of. Keep accurate shrinkage records.
  • Assist the Grocery Manager with planning and facilitating regular department meetings

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Assist customers with product questions in a prompt, and courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Work as part of a team to develop a hospitable department space that feels welcoming to all.
  • Knowledge of the products we carry and where they are located.
  • Assist customers with suggestions and ways to use/prepare products.
  • Help customers place special orders, field customer and vendor phone calls.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow GreenStar's safety rules.
  • Assist other employees in safety needs.
  • Report unsafe equipment and conditions in a timely manner; tag out equipment when necessary
  • Participate in safety training programs as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

STOREWIDE AND OTHER DUTIES

  • Attend and participate in Human Resources trainings, all-staff meetings, department meetings, and OBM Huddles to stay informed.
  • Read GreenStar publications to stay informed.
  • Read, respect and comply with storewide personnel policies.
  • Describe membership benefits, and how membership investment is made.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts.
  • Support all Grocery Sub-Departments as needed on any given scheduled shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Communication effective interpersonal communication; both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments and utilize good judgement.
  • Open to input/feedback on work performance
  • Self-Driven/Motivated throughout shift
  • Knowledge of trends in the natural foods industry
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands, stay calm, and prioritize
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. repetitively.
  • Ability to handle raw and packaged animal products (meats, eggs, dairy, etc.)
  • Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience
  • Computer skills a plus

Compensation details: 19.34-20.34 Hourly Wage
