Summary of Responsibilities

The grocery department supervisor is responsible for providing customers with quality items in a friendly and courteous manner, while ensuring safety standards and sanitation requirements are met. The grocery manager is also responsible for supervising staff within the department, ordering products to match the expected sales projections, and maintaining department profitability. Demonstrates the company's core values of community, accountability, respect, and engagement while instilling the values in all grocery department employees.

Essential Duties

• Maintaining a thorough knowledge of all of the products and their location, and ensures staff has a thorough knowledge as well.
• Ensures proper training occurs with grocery/frozen/dairy employees
• Delegates responsibilities effectively and follows up with employee completion
• Ability to evaluate and communicate performance expectations to employees
• Communicates effectively with all employees and customers in a friendly and welcoming way
• Creates a weekly schedule, and is flexible to the needs of employees, balancing that with the needs of the store
• Takes inventory quarterly and orders needed supplies and products weekly
• Orders turn products for the department on a weekly basis
• Utilizes movement reports to pre-book items in various programs
• Manages the merchandising of the Grocery & HBC GM end displays
• Manages DSD program and all DSD vendors
• Works with scanning department to ensure pricing accuracy on all products within the department
• Ensures that the department achieves the profitability goals set by the owner
• Ensures quality product is available based on customer demand
• Maintains knowledge of food trends through formal employer or wholesaler sponsored programs as well as through trade journal publications and other important media products
• Diligently maintains merchandising standards consistent with the competitive environment
• Completes beer ad for Honeoye Falls and Mendon Meadows
• Maintains a positive work environment while spreading our core values

Based on the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, the floating manager should have a number of skills and abilities:

• The ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities and meet assigned deadlines
• The ability to adapt to frequent changes
• Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
• Supervisory experience including training, evaluating, and providing direction
• Flexibility with hours, working in other departments, and at times helping at our sister store
• Sound organizational, records management, and time management skills

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

Based on the responsibilities of the position, it is preferred that the floating manager possess the following:

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in a grocery department management role
• Experience working in multiple departments or cross-functional teams preferred
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Reliably commute, or planning to relocate before beginning employment preferred

Physical and Environmental

The grocery department supervisor position is located within a retail grocery environment and may experience both hot and cold temperatures throughout the working day. Physical requirements include:

• Regularly lifting up to 60 pounds
• Fumes from ovens, grease, smoke, cleaning agents and from other departments
• Manual dexterity to use equipment within the store
