Salary: $18.00 - $19.93 HourlyLocation : Fairhope, ALJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: FHP00146Department: Public UtilitiesDivision: ElectricOpening Date: 01/06/2025Closing Date: 1/12/2025 11:59 PM CentralFLSA: Non-ExemptDescription Under the supervision of the Line Foreman, this employee installs street lights, assists Line Workers in performing their tasks (ground and overhead work), trims or removes trees and limbs, installs electric services, and connects service meters. The employee collects job site tools and materials prior to field work for work crews and ensures that work crews have all items needed for work site. This employee restocks supply trucks to ensure work crews have all needed materials and supplies. The employee monitors work sites for proper safety procedures and precautions. The employee assists with trouble calls and pulls in wire for electric services. This employee controls work site traffic using established safety procedures and equipment. The employee installs and removes City holiday lighting. This employee performs entry-level and intermediate-level electric service installations for underground, conduit, and meter base connections. This employee operates equipment such as dump trucks, bucket trucks, trenchers, backhoes, and forklifts. This job is considered safety-sensitive is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Assists Linemen. Provides Linemen assistance as they perform electric line installation, maintenance, or repair tasks.
  • Works closely with Linemen involved in line installation, maintenance, or repair tasks.
  • Monitors work site conditions for hazards or safety concerns; informs Linemen of any concerns or issues.
  • Monitors work truck for required tools, supplies and equipment; ensures truck is fully stocked with needed items.
  • Monitors tool needs of Linemen; supplies needed tools to Linemen as work progresses.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Installs Street Lights. Performs street light installations throughout the City as part of an installation crew; utilizes bucket truck and associated equipment.
  • Works as member of installation crew that installs streetlights in the City using bucket truck and other equipment.
  • Practices proper safety procedures while engaged in light installation.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Removes and Trims Trees. Cuts down and trims trees associated with electric line installation, maintenance, or repair.
  • Cuts down and limbs trees using power saws and other equipment.
  • Practices proper safety procedures while engaged in tree removal or trimming operations.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Service Connections. Installs electric service lines and meters for residential and business customers.
  • Installs electric service lines for residential and business customers.
  • Installs service meters for residential and business customers.
  • Practices proper safety procedures when performing line and meter installations.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Equipment Operation. Operates a variety of heavy equipment utilized in electric system installation and maintenance.
  • Operates equipment such as dump trucks, bucket trucks, backhoes and trenchers to install and maintain electrical services in the City.
  • Monitors equipment maintenance and repair needs while operating.
  • NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one to three (3) years of experience in electric service line installation.
  • Possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours.
  • Ability to travel to attend training programs or professional development workshops.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.

  • Math skills to perform basic calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member with line crews.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as trencher and backhoe.
  • Ability to use power saws and other equipment used in tree and limb removal.
  • Ability to perform measurements at work sites.
  • Ability to run electric service lines at project sites.
  • Ability to install electric service meters.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical services and installations.
  • Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and patient manner.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Physical DemandsThe work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching, or crawling in restricted areas.
