Job Summary
The Grounds Keeper maintains and beautifies grounds, maintains grounds equipment, set ups, and performs waste management.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Maintain Turf Grass, Trees, Shrubs,& Groundcovers: Mows lawns using power equipment, collecting clippings and adjusts cutting height as needed; Line trims around signs, trees, bunkers, fence lines and valve boxes; Edges along walks, curbs and beds; Replaces and repairs divots; Inspects lawns prior to mowing for obstacles such as debris, irrigation heads, rocks, sticks, valve boxes, etc. Prunes plant materials with hand and power tools at appropriate times and removes debris; Controls weeds manually and with herbicides; Applies fertilizer to shrubs and trees; Plants and maintains seasonal color beds
Maintains Ground Equipment: Performs and records routine maintenance; Checks engine oil prior to starting; Cleans equipment after each use; Notifies crew leader and supervisor of safety issues
Maintains Mechanical Aspects of The Golf Range: Assists with irrigation repairs; Cleans golf balls and delivers to the Club House; Maintains cleanliness of physical features such as flags and signs
Cleans & Organizes Grounds Warehouse & Performs Waste Management: Empties and cleans waste containers; Empties cigarette urns and replenishes sand; Removes litter and chewing gum; Sweeps floors and collects trash' Keeps tools, equipment and vehicles in good condition and stored properly; Returns flammable product container to fire proof cabinets; Safeguards and secures grounds tools and equipment
Appearance & Attitude: Must wear appropriate uniform, appropriate personal protection equipment and maintain good hygiene; Treat others with respect, to include supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, faculty, students, vendors and visitors; Observe all departmental and university policies and procedures
Other Duties: Performs all other job-related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accredited organization or one year of experience in a similar position in a commercial, hospital, or industrial environment; Valid driver's license required to operate golf carts and vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the grounds trade. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the grounds trade.
SKILLS: Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the grounds trade. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
ABILITIES: Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs, Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must have a current driver's license to operate golf carts and vehicles. Must be able to work independently and as a team member. Must be able to work well with co-workers, supervisors, and faculty
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift Days; Monday - Friday (Several Positions Available)
Pay Band: 1
Salary: $15.00/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Conditions of Employment

Driver's License Statement
