Salary: $18.09 - $23.08 HourlyLocation : Arvada, COJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: GMS2501Department: District ServicesOpening Date: 01/06/2025Closing Date: 1/13/2025 5:00 PM MountainPosition Summary, Duties and ResponsibilitiesHiring Range $18.09 - $21.53The grounds maintenance specialist position plays a crucial role in maintaining all district facilities under the direct supervision of the manager of parks and grounds. This role involves daily tasks related to ground maintenance, emergency repairs, and capital improvement projects. It requires interaction with various stakeholders.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:Grounds Maintenance
  • Review daily job duty schedule to determine field maintenance requirements.
  • Assist in identifying grounds maintenance needs through regular inspections.
  • Perform year-round grounds maintenance tasks, such as trash pick-up, snow removal, restroom cleaning, pond maintenance, grass mowing, fertilizing, seeding, pruning, tree trimming, sign maintenance, and storm water inspection and maintenance.
Equipment Operation
  • Operate mechanical equipment, including trucks, trailers, front-end loaders, tractors, and mowers.
  • Use hand and power tools like chainsaws, lawnmowers, and tillers.
  • Perform minor mechanical equipment repairs and maintain equipment and tools.
Daily Call-in and Emergency Maintenance
  • Assist in resolving daily call-in grounds maintenance issues, such as water line and irrigation head repair, plumbing, and facility maintenance.
  • Perform emergency repairs on district areas and facilities that pose risks to the public and employees.
  • Participate in purchasing materials for resolving daily call-in and emergency grounds maintenance issues.
  • Lead snow removal efforts during the off-season.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • professionally interact with others.
  • Serve on committees and focus groups as the manager of parks and grounds assigns.
  • Handle ground maintenance complaints as directed.
  • Collaborate closely with the manager of parks and grounds to fulfill daily grounds and field maintenance tasks.
  • Purchase materials and equipment as needed and work with vendors to address material-related situations.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, staff meetings, and conferences as assigned.
  • Work on special projects as assigned by manager of parks and grounds.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:Responsible for supervising part-time employees in the absence of the manager of parks and grounds.Job Qualifications
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, take initiative, and assume responsibility.
  • Basic knowledge of and ability to use standard shift vehicles, tractors, and implements.
  • Proficiency in operating water pumps and hoses.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Adaptability to adapt to changing job priorities.
  • Sound decision-making and judgment in stressful situations.
  • Capability to educate and supervise various staff.
Education and Experience A high school diploma or equivalent qualification is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Bachelor of Science degree in parks, recreation, or a related field. The position mandates a minimum of one year of experience in grounds maintenance. Additionally, CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required, or the ability to obtain them within 90 days of employment.Applicants must hold a current and valid Colorado driver's license. A general knowledge of all aspects of ground maintenance is expected, and supervisory experience is considered helpful Work Environment The role requires the ability to lift and drag weights ranging from 50 to 80 pounds. The candidate must be flexible to work varying hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Work environments include both indoor and outdoor settings.Effective teamwork with associates and the public is essential, and the position involves exposure to environmental conditions such as noise, fumes, odors, dust, snow, and extreme weather. The candidate should be physically capable of moving heavy equipment and materials.Material and Equipment Used:The equipment used in this role includes standard transmission, two-wheel-drive maintenance trucks, and utility carts. Various tools and machinery are also utilized, such as scarifiers, drag mats, tractors, and implements. Other equipment involved in the tasks includes floats, box scrapers, spike drags, drag mats, discs, etc. Water pumps and hoses are also part of the equipment used in the duties.PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:Ability to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds, operate heavy equipment, use hand tools, and stand for extended periods.TRAVEL: Occasional travel may be required for meetings and training sessions.NOTE: This job annoucment outlines the primary responsibilities, but there is always room to grow and shine as part of our team.
