Salary: $16.62 HourlyLocation : Citrus County, FLJob Type: Part Time 20-29 Hrs wklyJob Number: 25-19PTDepartment: Public WorksDivision: PW AdminOpening Date: 10/28/2024Closing Date: 11/24/2024 4:30 PM EasternGeneral DescriptionThe Grounds Maintenance Technician I executes small scale landscaping operations, grounds maintenance improvement projects located in the Citrus Springs community within the County. Performs field operations work according to some procedures but still exercises discretion on how and when to complete tasks under general supervision. The schedule for this part-time position is 3 days per week between Monday and Thursday. Essential Functions
  • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
  • Selects plants, prunes, and trims trees, ornamental plants, shrubs, and ground covers to accomplish landscaping objectives.
  • Applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to areas. Places postings where pesticides are being applied. Disposes of product containers per instructions and applicable environmental regulations and maintains logs of products and chemicals used.
  • Performs various pond maintenance duties.
  • Assists with median irrigation including, but not limited to, installs, adjustments, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Assists with litter control on roads and rights-of-way.
  • Performs general maintenance on equipment and facilities.
  • Seeds, mows, and performs general care maintenance duties to lawn or grass areas.
  • Completes timely work orders and daily paperwork of finished tasks.
  • Uses pressure washing equipment to clean various surfaces.
  • Performs minor carpentry and plumbing duties.
  • Participates in tree maintenance duties, including but not limited to, removal, trimming, or cutting down.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Minimum RequirementsEducation, Training, and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year landscaping experience, preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
  • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
  • Successful completion of classes in turf grass maintenance or grounds maintenance, preferred.
  • Principles and practices of plant maintenance which includes but not limited to, pruning, and trimming a variety of shrubs and trees.
  • Ability to operate and maintain various landscape equipment, power tools, and hand tools.
  • Working knowledge of how to effectively care for and maintain various irrigation systems and ponds.
  • Working knowledge of grounds keeping, cultivation, spraying, and trimming requirements of shrubs and trees, and plant maintenance procedures used in landscape installation and grounds maintenance.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
    • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
    • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • Requires standing and walking most of the day.
  • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
  • The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, twisting, reaching above shoulders, and occasional crawling, climbing, jumping, and throwing.
  • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, operating a manual transmission, and occasional working in darkness.
  • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
  • The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
