This is a temporary position and there are no leave or retirement benefits offered with this position. This temporary position is located in Raleigh, NC - Wake County.

Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application).

This temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety. This position is located at 1636 Gold Star Drive, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Responsible for the cultivation, maintenance and promotion of plants, uirf or a plant collection in an assigned program of the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters Complex grounds, Work includes: sowing, propagating, transplanting, fertilizing, and applying chemicals and water to the plants, turf or plant collection; installing new plant material following plans and/or approved horticultural/grounds practices and procedures; and maintaining the beds including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing and spraying of plant material. Maintains records of plant species, including research on the design and maintenance of such plants.

May prepare and maintain special beds, participate in landscape design and construction, supply and arrange special foliage for events, maintain indoor foliage, or promote knowledge and understanding of the plants. May install and maintain systems in an assigned geographical area. Work requires the use of special tools for cultivation, maintenance and transportation of plants, May serve as a crew leader, Maintains grounds water grate drains and performs basic plumbing work on stormwater control measure systems, Performs basic maintenance on grounds maintenance vehicles and equipment to include changing oil, changing and rotating tires and brakes, and sharpen blades, Performs related duties as required,

* Experience with operating heavy machinery.

* Experience in horticultural practices & techniques applicable to the upkeep of grounds, flowers, trees, and shrubs.

* Experience in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment such as tractors, mowers and other powered lawn equipment.

Education and/or experience in grounds work that is directly related to the job and consistent with accepted practices of the trade and equivalent to two years of experience in planting, cultivation, and care of shrubs, trees, plants and grasses.
