Position Type: Maintenance/GroundskeeperDate Posted: 8/27/2024Location: Operations CenterDate Available: ASAPDEFINITION RFSD is looking for a full-time Grounds Worker. The Grounds Worker performs a variety of duties involved in the maintenance and upkeep of building grounds, including playgrounds, athletic fields, or other grounds. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Receives direction from the Grounds Crew Leader and Director or Facilities/Maintenance. PRIMARY DUTIES The following are examples of primary duties assigned to positions in this classification. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including groundskeeping equipment, snow removal equipment, power and hand tools and other specialized maintenance equipment; perform safety and maintenance inspections on assigned vehicle or equipment; perform routine vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Plant, water and maintain landscaped areas; mow; weed; renovate and aerate turf; edge and trim around fences and other items; maintain irrigation systems.
  • Clean and maintain assigned athletic fields and playing areas.
  • Monitor the condition of turf; prepare and repair turf before and after athletic events; mow football and baseball fields.
  • Clean and maintain assigned areas; pick up and discard trash and litter; rake leaves and clear snow, ice and other debris from roadways, parking lots, walkways and other areas around buildings.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
  • Assist in maintenance projects outside of regularly assigned area depending on work needs.
  • Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.
  • Report to work on time and accurately record time worked; may need to adjust work schedule due to weather conditions, emergencies or other work-related projects; work overtime as needed.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Grounds Department by performing all other related duties as assigned.
  • QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of:
    • Methods, standards, techniques, materials, equipment, and tools used in grounds maintenance
    • Equipment used in snow removal
    • Operational characteristics and maintenance requirements of tools and equipment
    • Hand and power tools used in grounds maintenance
    • Parts and supplies necessary for the various jobs assigned
    • Preventive maintenance principles and practices.
    Ability to:
    • Use and operate hand tools, vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment and power tools and equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner
    • Tow a trailer and load and lash equipment safely
    • Perform heavy manual labor in unfavorable weather conditions
    • Understand and follow oral and written directions
    • Work independently in the absence of supervision
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
    • Follow safety regulations
    • Use tools and power equipment skillfully
    • Work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings
    EXPERIENCE & TRAINING GUIDELINES Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience: One year of landscaping and/or grounds maintenance experience. Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. License or Certificate: The possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid drivers license. Spanish bilingual preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS Environmental Conditions: Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions and may work around heavy construction equipment. Physical Conditions: Primary functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy and moderate lifting up to 50lbs; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles. SALARY RANGE AND DAYS WORKED Hourly range: $21.89 to $27.11/hour, depending on qualified experience Days worked: 260 days/year (with paid personal time, paid vacation days, and paid time off for holidays and district non-work days such as during winter break and spring breaks).
