SALARY RANGE: O10 - $37,640.67 - $52,449.99LOCATION: FCM - LANDSCAPING & GROUNDS SERVICESJOB SUMMARY: Under direction of a supervisory official in a state institution or department, performs tasks involved in the maintenance of grounds; does other related duties as required.REQUIREMENTS: Prepares and maintains all institutional grounds, including the preparation of the soil, seeding, rolling, weeding, feeding, and cutting of lawns, and the planting, transplanting, thinning, and harvesting of flowers for cutting and other use.Maintains athletic fields and all playing surfaces, including natural and artificial turf, and performs infield maintenance. Paints turf with team logos, striping, and names before sporting events to league specifications. Fertilizes and aerates the playing surface, determines pesticide solutions and watering schedules, and keeps the surface clean and aesthetically appealing while ensuring safety for athletes.Removes dirt, rubbish, snow, leaves, and other refuse; assists in maintaining roads, lawns, sheds, benches, and parking areas. Responds to inclement weather emergencies and assists with snow removal operations.Operates landscaping and grounds equipment including trucks, plows, blowers, tractors, grass cutters, and other related equipment.May be required to perform assigned duties within buildings for short periods.Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency or related units.EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in semiskilled grounds keeping work.LICENSE: Appointees may be required to obtain a NJ Certified Pesticide Applicator's or Operator's Permit in the required categories. A valid New Jersey driver's license is required to perform the essential duties of the position.KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods used for lawn and grounds maintenance. Ability to take the lead in laying out flower beds, directing soil preparation, planting, weeding, and thinning of bedding stock, and producing flowers for cutting. Ability to propagate trees, shrubbery, and perennial plants, and direct pruning, weeding, mowing, and trimming. Ability to use equipment, materials, tools, and supplies properly, and to train others in their handling and maintenance. Ability to ensure safety and custody of individuals assigned to grounds keeping work, recognize suspicious situations, and take necessary measures to secure safe conditions. Ability to requisition, safeguard, store, and record equipment and supplies.
