Hours: Monday-Thursday 7am-5:30pmJOB SUMMARYGroundskeeper 1 maintains the right of ways for City maintained roadways and state highways located within the City limits. Personnel must have the ability to walk an average of 4-6 miles per day in adverse weather conditions, primarily in the heat for the duration of the summer months. Personnel's primary daily tools are as follows: edger, weed eater, push blower, backpack blower, push mower, and zero turn mower. Groundskeeper 1 is a high volume, commercial style, fast paced job.This position performs semi-skilled and manual work in maintenance and repair of municipal streets, building and various grounds, parks, median strips, recreational areas, fields, and facilities. Examples of Duties / Knowledge & SkillsESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs a wide range of landscaping tasks as assigned, including but not limited to cutting grass, trim sidewalk and curb edges, trim hedges, bushes and trees, dig up plants, trees, shrubs and sod, water grounds and flower beds, spread fertilizer, spray grounds with insecticides and herbicides, plant flowers and seeds, sets out plants, and pulls weeds from beds.
- Operates a variety of power and manual landscaping equipment and tools such as riding or other type self-propelled power lawn mower, gasoline powered edger, rotary spreader, weed eater, grass sling, back pack leaf blowers, chippers, chain saws and other equipment as assigned.
- Drives and operates work truck to and from job sites.
- Supports the City by helping with set up, equipment take down, and clean-up during and after events.
- Picks up litter from publicly maintained roadways and grounds.
- Cleans publicly maintained restrooms, pier, pool, and other recreational areas.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks as assigned.
- May be required to respond to after hour emergencies.
- Delivers mail and supplies to public service personnel in various departments.
- Cleans buildings.
- Washes and cleans equipment, assists in preventive maintenance of equipment and performs routine check of fluids.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience:High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licenses or Certifications:
- Possession of a valid Class E Florida Drivers License and compliance with vehicle use policy requirements, Section 8.15(c) in the City's Personnel Manual.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of landscape maintenance and grounds keeping practices and principles.
- Knowledge of safe working procedures.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of power equipment and related tools.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.
- Ability to properly use a variety of hand tools used in grounds maintenance activities.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force to move objects.
