Job Summary:Join our team as a Groundskeeper where you will play a key role in supporting campus operations by handling a variety of groundskeeping tasks. This position will be the first line of response for maintaining assigned areas, including grass cutting, weeding, landscaping, pest control, and event set-ups. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge and hands-on experience in groundskeeping, with a strong understanding of regulations related to herbicides and pesticides. Reporting to the Crew Leader or Supervisor, you will collaborate with faculty, staff, students, Facilities personnel, and outside contractors to ensure the campus remains in top condition. This position is considered essential, and may be required to work when the campus is closed.
Job Duties:Reporting Relationships:Reports to Landscape Crew Leader.
What You'll Do:- Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance | 70% | Perform routine landscaping tasks within assigned areas including, but not limited to, weeding, pruning, and mulching, seeding, edging, trimming, planting, and applying herbicides, pesticides, chemicals, and fertilizers. Develop and execute plans to cut grass within assigned geographical areas. Use hand and power tools to cut grass and weeds. Operate and maintain a variety of hand and motor driven tools and equipment (i.e. skid steer and backhoe).
- Maintenance and Operations | 20% | Responsible for performing general and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, including tasks such as sharpening blades and changing oils, lubricants, filters, and belts. Supports university special events by assisting with event set-ups, driving vehicles and equipment, pest control (both interior and exterior), operating pressure washers, snow removal, and litter pick-up on campus. Works collaboratively as a team member to ensure the efficient coordination and completion of various maintenance tasks across the campus.
- Procurement| 10% | Responsible for adhering to OSHA standards and employing safe practices while following all safety policies and procedures. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE) safely, setting a positive example for others, and notifying supervisors of potential hazards. Supports and promotes the University's sustainability efforts.
What You'll Bring:- Professional Work Experience: A minimum of one year of grounds maintenance experience, including demonstrated use of related tools and equipment.
- Current and valid driver's license.
- General knowledge and experience in various aspects of groundskeeping.
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions and perform basic math calculations.
- Demonstrated ability to perform work in a safe and appropriate manner.
- Basic computer skills to use email and Workday.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusiveness.
Preferred, but not required:- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Continued or continuing education in vocational training or related areas.
- Pesticide License/Certification
Physical Requirements:- Ability to move around work sites, climb ladders, scaffolds and walkways, and enter/exit trenches, crawl spaces, confined areas, roofs, and elevated areas.
- Move, lift and carry up to 75 pounds unassisted.
- Daily exposure to dust, dirt, weather and temperature changes. Position works indoors and outdoors.
- Must use proper safety equipment for hearing, head, eye, feet, hand, and body protection.
- Use of mechanical and power equipment.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions in all seasons.
Additional Information:- Position is classified as part of essential services. Individuals are required to report to work even if the campus is closed or has a delayed opening/early closing due to emergency/exigent circumstances.

Salary Range:16.00-20.00The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
