JobDescription SummaryWorks under general supervision of the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. Groundskeepers are responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of Ringling College Main Campus grounds, including, but not limited to pruning trees, shrubs and detailing landscaped areas such as flowerbeds, etc. This position will also perform basic irrigation repair and maintenance in all assigned areas. This role involves regular contact with co-workers and supervisors, as well as occasional and casual interactions with visitors, students, staff members faculty while performing the duties of the job.
Job DescriptionDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Trims, prunes, & installs trees, shrubs, vines and plants.
- Practices integrated pest management through proper pruning and weed control.
- Maintains and repairs sprinklers, landscape lighting, etc.
- Pulls weeds, refuse and other debris from flowerbeds and mulched areas.
- Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, seeds, bulbs, etc. in flowerbeds or appropriate areas.
- Collects debris and trash from campus grounds areas.
- Pressure washes sidewalks, outdoor furniture, canopies and other items as required
- Safely uses equipment such as golf carts, blowers, weed eaters, chain saw and power pruning saws while keeping them in proper working condition and reporting defects to proper personnel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES - Knowledge and understanding of or the ability to learn established Best Management Practices within the landscape maintenance industry.
- Effective communication and time management skills.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety precautions applicable to ground maintenance.
- Ability to learn and comply with all safety rules, including wearing personal protective equipment.
- Ability to follow planned landscape maintenance schedules.
- Ability to safely operate utility carts, power equipment, skid-steers and lifts while performing job functions.
- The ability to perform strenuous physical work for sustained periods of time including lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying heavy objects of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in extreme variations in temperature and humidity.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- This position may require weekend, holiday and emergency work, including potential on call responsibilities.
Education and ExperienceMinimum Qualifications:- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess or ability to possess a valid Florida's Driver's license.
- Experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes.
Preferred Qualifications:- Commercial experience in the proper methods used in planting and maintaining hedges, trees, shrubs, lawns and flowers in the subtropical regions of Florida.
- Certification in Green Industry - Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) Limited Commercial.
- Florida Limited Lawn and Ornamental Applicator License.
- Landscape construction and irrigation repair and installation experience.
