VACANCY: GROUNDSKEEPER
EFFECTIVE: ASAP
HOURS: 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Assistant Director of Facilities
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is a semi-skilled labor position that involves the usage of hand and power equipment to maintain the exterior, grounds, and playing fields of a public school district. This work involves heavy lifting and working in adverse weather conditions on a regular basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Valid Driver's License (CDL a plus)
* 2 years of full time paid experience as a grounds maintenance worker
* Knowledge of and proficiency in the operating of commercial grounds maintenance equipment
* Ability to perform minor repairs and routine service to grounds equipment and vehicles
* Physical ability to perform the required duties including but not limited to: routinely lifting heavy objects, working the daily work shift outside in adverse weather conditions, plowing snow
* Experience with irrigation systems (a plus)
GENERAL DUTIES:
* Maintenance of school grounds, athletic fields, roads walkways, catch basins and planting beds, which includes mowing, aerifying, seeding, fertilizer application, cutting and trimming grass, pruning trees, scrubs and hedges, cutting up fallen trees and branches, including leaf raking, blowing and vacuuming, preparing ballfields for games and other general grounds duties, as assigned
* Deliver and pick up furniture, risers, bulk food, custodial supplies paper and other items
* Such other related tasks as directed
Must be available for snow plowing and de-icing duties before and after regular work hours and during weekend and holiday periods. During periods when weather prevents normal work duties, employee will be assigned custodial work.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Contract between The Darien Board of Education and Darien School Maintenance Association (new July 1, 2022)
