East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Groundskeeper! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
As the Groundskeeper, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable performing skilled work maintaining campus grounds. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work closely with the Grounds Supervisor utilizing equipment to ensure routine upkeep of the university. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your groundskeeping experience with knowledge of roadways and grounds while assisting with day-to-day landscaping operations. To be successful in this role, you must be detail oriented, possess comprehensive communication, and able to work outdoors.
Your normal hours will be from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Wednesday to Sunday. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Groundskeeper. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
* Mow, seed, fertilize, remove snow, and perform general grounds maintenance and works on campus landscaping projects.
* Operate tractors and other related equipment during grass mowing, gathering of leaves, and snow removal operations.
* Operate motorized equipment including tractors, hand mowers, hedger, weed whackers, blowers, chain saw, jack hammer, field line painters, and grinders.
* Plant and care for flowers, grass seed, sod and landscape material. Lay-out and participate in the watering, fertilizing, sodding, trimming, and cleaning of campus lawns and flower beds.
* Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on grounds equipment and record this information as required.
* Maintain campus street and regulatory signs.
* Clean campus grounds of debris. Clean and maintain campus storm and roof drains.
* Maintain campus roadways including blacktop repairs and replacement. Prune campus trees and ornamental plants.
* Supervise students while participating in the maintenance of campus grounds and numerous athletic fields.
* Performs related work as required.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
* One year of experience in grounds keeping work and completion of the eighth grade; valid driver's license.
* Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
* Ability to work in inclement weather.
* Comprehension of written and oral communication.
* Valid PA C Driver's License
* Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, 50lb minimum and extensive hand coordination movement required.
* Continual visual attention required to operate heavy machinery. Protective equipment such as gloves, goggles, slush boots, coveralls, ear plugs, hard hats, respirator, and rain gear are supplied by employer.
* Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
* Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
