Position DetailsPosition Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty TrackPosition Title Groundskeeper/Recycling Staff Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Biddeford, ME Description The Groundskeeper/Recycling Staff is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the campus grounds throughout the year, performing essential seasonal tasks, and ensuring compliance with waste diversion procedures. This role involves a variety of duties including landscape maintenance, snow and ice removal, waste management, and equipment upkeep.This position is primarily a Monday through Friday 1st shift position, with the ability to work some evenings, and weekends for winter storms and athletic events. Expected pay is $20.00 per hour (annualized $41,600).   • Maintain grounds in summer: Mow and fertilize lawns; plant grass, flowers, shrubs, and trees; prune and fertilize trees and shrubs; and remove weeds and brush using power equipment.
  • Maintain grounds in winter: Remove snow and ice from parking lots and sidewalks using shovels, snow blowers, and plows; apply salt and sand.
  • Perform other seasonal grounds work: Rake leaves, sweep sand, and apply protective coverings over shrubs.
  • May maintain tools and equipment used in grounds work and perform specialized equipment maintenance and repair tasks as time allows.
  • Understand and comply with University waste diversion procedures.
  • Transport waste materials from collection stations located throughout the Biddeford Campus to the single-sort compactor, compost accumulation areas, and other waste diversion areas.
  • Maintain recycling and compost stations throughout campus, including snow removal as needed at specific waste locations.
  • Pick up trash around buildings and dorms and empty trash cans.
  • Mentor student Eco-Reps in recycling, composting, and waste diversion practices.
  • Comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and regulations. Report all hazards, unsafe work practices, and accidents immediately to the supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications High school education desirable, plus two years of formal or informal experience in grounds maintenance, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Basic knowledge and skills related to the care and maintenance of lawns, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Basic trade skills and mechanical ability.
  • Proficiency in operating hand tools and power equipment used in grounds work.
  • Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform all primary job duties.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a variety of university personnel, both independently and as part of a team.
