Thank you for your interest in working at William Paterson University.William Paterson University invites applications for the position of Grounds Worker within the Department of Physical Plant Operations. The Grounds Worker, under the supervision of the Superintendent of Institutional Grounds, is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic appearance and functionality of the WPUNJ campus grounds. This individual will be involved in a wide range of tasks related to landscaping, grounds maintenance, and horticulture. The Grounds Worker will play an essential role in creating a safe, clean, and visually appealing environment for all members of the university community.Job Responsibilities:- Perform various tasks related to the upkeep and maintenance of outdoor spaces, including mowing, trimming, planting, weeding, and watering plants and trees.- Operate and maintain grounds equipment, such as lawn mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, and other power tools.- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of outdoor areas, including picking up trash and debris, sweeping walkways, and cleaning outdoor furniture.- Assist in the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems and outdoor lighting.- Inspect outdoor areas on a regular basis and identify potential hazards or issues that require attention, such as damaged trees or broken irrigation lines, and report them to the relevant personnel.- Operate and maintain hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete tasks.- Follow established safety protocols and maintain a safe and clean work environment at all times.- Assist in the preparation of sports fields, outdoor event setups, and other activities or special projects.- Collaborate with other team members and staff to ensure the efficient and effective maintenance of all outdoor areas.- Communicate professionally and courteously with staff, students, and visitors when necessary.- Maintain records of work completed, including daily work logs, equipment maintenance logs, and inventory of supplies.- Attend training sessions and workshops to stay updated on industry best practices and new techniques related to grounds maintenance.- Assist in the snow and ice removal during winter months using appropriate equipment and materials.- Perform regular maintenance checks on equipment and report any issues to the supervisor.- Assist in the coordination of waste management and recycling programs, including proper disposal of yard waste and other recyclable materials.Requirements:- High school diploma or equivalent.- Previous experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping preferred.- Excellent physical stamina and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.- Knowledge of horticultural practices, including planting, pruning, and fertilizing.- Ability to operate and maintain grounds equipment safely and effectively.- Basic understanding of irrigation systems and outdoor lighting.- Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify potential hazards or issues.- Excellent time management and organizational skills.- Effective communication skills and the ability to work wellWorking Hours: 7:30 am - 4:00 pmIPFTE Salary Grade 10 - $37,640.67 - $52,449.99Invitation to applyInterested candidates will be prompted to: Complete an application and submit a cover letterSubmission of all documents listed is required for consideration.General questions related to this application process, please contact ...@wpunj.eduBelow is the link to the residency requirement that career service employees are subject to.Civil Service Commission | NJ First ActTotal Rewards: Click here to view the total rewards of working at WPWilliam Paterson University is committed to protecting your privacy and will not sell your personal information.EEO StatementWilliam Paterson University is dedicated to providing equal opportunities and equal access to all individuals regardless of race or ethnicity, sex/gender (including pregnancy), gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, civil union status, familial status, religion, national origin or citizenship, military service status, or any other category protected by law.
