DescriptionPart of a team responsible for the preparation, planning, and delivery of hot/warm group exercise fitness classes including Yoga, Barre and Power Sculpt.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists members on the proper use of exercise equipment.
- Gives sound health and fitness training and advice to members/clients.
- Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Offers and provides spotting to members.
- Provides general maintenance and organization to the exercise area and equipment.
- Provides a safe, clean area for members to exercise.
- Maintains current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Stays current with the latest safety information and research in the fitness industry.
- Notified supervisor of any damaged equipment or shortages.
- Wears appropriate exercise attire and footwear.
- Arrives five minutes prior to the appointment start.
- Motivates and encourages participants with positive feedback.
- Executes Branch emergency plan as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITYResponsible for the success of the group exercise programs in accordance with the goals of the YMCA of Virginia's Blue Ridge. Reports directly to the Wellness Director and keeps him/her informed of plans, progress, and problems. Accountable for assisting management with the delivery and marketing of fitness class programming.WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to recognize and respond to unsafe situations.
- Demonstrate and assist with exercises.
- May be required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Rigorous physical activity up to 1.5 hours required.
- Must be able to lead exercises while verbally cueing instructions and movement changes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience preferred.
- Years of experience should be accompanied by appropriate evaluations and demonstration of high level of job performance in teaching group exercise.
- Qualified to teach and teaching a minimum of one class format.
- Must hold and maintain:
- Current CPR certification
- Current AED certification
- Current nationally recognized group exercise certification
- Current specialty class certification
