Job Description:

Oliver Sanderson is engaged with a Real Estate company in search of an experienced Financial Controller to oversee the accounting operations of their growing commercial real estate portfolio in the heart of New York City.

The Financial Controller will oversee and manage the entire accounting department, which includes internal controls, financial reporting, and system management, along with supervising team members such as the assistant controller, senior property accountants, accounts payable, billing and collections, lease administration, payroll services, and cash management.

Key areas of focus:

  • Ensure seamless implementation and maintenance of accounting systems, particularly MRI software and AVID Exchange.
  • Manage cash flow, intercompany transactions, and wire transfers, while ensuring compliance with lender reporting requirements.
  • Maintain the accounting department's agenda to address issues efficiently and promptly.
  • Oversee the timely maintenance of general ledgers and supporting schedules for financial reporting and audit compliance.
  • Collaborate with independent auditors to ensure timely completion of annual audits.
  • Support tax accountants in maintaining compliance with government regulations.
  • Handle special projects and assignments as needed.

Our client is looking for an experienced and highly qualified Controller with a CPA designation and at least 15 years' experience managing an accounting department, ideally within the commercial real estate industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in overseeing financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting systems, particularly MRI real estate accounting software. Experience with New York City properties is a plus. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Advanced proficiency in Excel and the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams and external auditors are essential.

This is an on-site role based in New York City Midtown.
