This role is critical and vitally important, not only to our production as a thriving business that supports our employees and the community, but ultimately, to our customers. Local Bounti Growers are the caretakers, nurturers, and cultivators, of Local Bounti's thriving, Happy Plants, ensuring that our greens grow cleaner, fresher, and longer lasting.Utilizing the latest science and Local Bounti's patented Stack and Flow® hydroponic technology in our high-tech controlled environment agriculture (CEA) greenhouses, the Grower ensures that Local Bounti plants enjoy a the most ideal environment for every stage of their lives, from seedlings to harvest.Growers are ultimately responsible for Quality Assurance and Production activities. Working in tandem with the Production Team, as the roots of each facilities, Growers are the HQ for providing continuous feedback to all teams in the facility, improving systems, processes, communications, and techniques with the goal of growing consistent, reliably thriving, and happy plants. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the essential functions, qualifications, physical demands, and the work environment encountered in this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with any other duties as assigned:Utilizing their experience and the resources available to them, the Grower will be responsible for the overall health and happiness of the plants, ensuring that yield targets are consistently met.
  • Establish ideal growing conditions for maximizing consistent yield.
  • Manage nutrient recipes and their implementation into the system.
  • Ensure growing systems are continually maintaining pre-defined environmental ranges.
  • Manage facility IPM program keeping pest pressure below economic thresholds.
  • Provide input to ongoing research and development initiatives assisting with tasks related to trial programs.
  • Ensure consistent product quality standards aligning with established specifications including Food Safety and Quality Assurance (SQA) standards, in collaboration with our FSQA team.
  • Report to facility leadership regarding daily, weekly and monthly yield forecasts.
  • Complete documentation and log in a timely and reliable manner.
  • Be the source of truth for all data sets pertaining to the greenhouse (i.e. nutrient analysis, historical environmental data, chemical or additive treatments, movement of plants, etc.)
  • Record and analyze growing system data looking for trends, potential risks, opportunities for improvement, etc, and immediately communicate any issues that could impact production.
  • Assist with, and when appropriate, develop, training for existing and new employees to ensure consistent production, quality, and safety. Maintain employee training records.
  • Maintain ongoing education in CEA Greenhouse leafy greens growing for continuous improvement.
  • Works with vendors to purchase supplies and materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
GROWER EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture, Biology, Plant Science, CEA, or another Growing related degree from a four-year college or university plus at least 5 years of work experience;
  • Or Associate's degree in one of the aforementioned degrees, plus 7 years of growing experience;
  • Or at least 10 years of experience without a college degree;
  • Experience listed in the requirements above must be in greenhouse plant growing with at least one year of experience in Large-Scale Commercial Production, High Tech CEA Growing using Priva, Hoogendorn, Hortimax or another climate management system;
  • Experience growing leafy greens highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English highly preferred.
SENIOR GROWER EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or University in Horticulture, Agriculture, Biology, Plant Science, CEA, or another Growing related degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated employee management experience.
  • At least 10 years of growing experience including the following:
    • Large-scale, commercial vegetable and/or leafy green production, including hydroponic and vertical production, preferably in leafy green and lettuces.
    • High tech growing utilizing Priva, Hoogendorn and/or Hortimax climate management systems.
    • Utilization of climate management system to control and automate all aspects of growing environment.
    • Moving Gutter System (Green Automation, Hortiplan, FGM system, etc.).
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance and project management highly preferred.
  • Experienced in CEA Greenhouse electrical, irrigation, heating, cooling, and structure highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English highly preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:(Physical demands are a general guide and specific positions will vary based on working conditions, locations and facility/department needs)
  • The working environment is subject to pressure for multiple calls, inquiries, and interruptions.
  • Hearing: perceiving the nature of sound by ear.
  • Lifting: raising or lowering objects weighing no more than 10 pounds, from one level to another.
  • Mental Demands: mathematical reasoning, memorization, oral comprehension, spatial orientation, and written comprehension.
  • Sitting: remaining in the normal seated position.

  • Vision Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
