GU-Tech is a collaboration between Tennessee Tech University and four Upper Cumberland school districts. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a pre-college initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The GU-Tech program's primary goal is to dramatically increase the number of Tennessee students who access and succeed in higher education. GU-Tech will develop and implement direct services â including mentoring, tutoring, college visits, financial aid counseling, and academic interventions â for students entering grades 6 and 7 and then continue to provide these direct services through the students' first year of postsecondary education.The GU-Tech College Access Advisor will be assigned to Clay County Schools to develop a plan of services that meets the standards established in the GU-Tech grant and that is customized for that system's unique strengths and needs. College Access Advisors will devote 100% of their time to managing daily activities and coordinating GU-Tech activities with other school personnel at the target schools. College Access Advisors will assist with the selection and supervision of Tennessee Tech student tutors and Tennessee Tech student counselor assistants who are assigned to their system. College Access Advisors will assist with Early Warning System (EWS) response and intervention implementation for their assigned students, as well as organize and facilitate other services such as campus visits, career exploration, work-based learning experiences, parent engagement, student workshops, and professional development at their assigned schools. College Advisors will serve as the primary liaison between their assigned school(s) and the GU-Tech program.Essential FunctionsResponsible for the implementation of GU-Tech services in assigned school districtsAssist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director with the development and implementation of the annual GEAR UP TN work plan and budget for each participating school system that will successfully accomplish college and career ready benchmarksSubmit Monthly Activity Plans (MAP) and Completed Activity Reports (CAR) for all GU-Tech activities for the assigned districtAttend bimonthly College Access Advisor Meetings with GU-Tech staffEnsure the efficient use of resources in meeting GU-Tech goals and objectivesAssist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director in ensuring compliance with all grant requirements as determined by the U.S. Department of EducationParticipate in GEAR UP meetings and professional development opportunities sponsored by GU-TechAssist in data collection aimed at grant compliance and long-term sustainability of the programEstablish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, teachers, and community partners in assigned districtLeverage community resources, solicit in-kind contributions of goods and services, and maintain proper records for all expenditures and grant match requirementsAssess, in consultation with GU-Tech staff and direct service school personnel, the needs of assigned schools and adapt programs and activities to meet those needsAssist with the training and supervision of part-time Tennessee Tech student tutors and college counseling assistants who are assigned to their districtImplement and coordinate individualized college access and success services by interacting daily with middle and high school students and parents/families.Work with school administration to expand a school and community-wide culture of college access and successImplement faculty professional development focused on college readiness, access, and successEncourage every student to consider a broad range of appropriate postsecondary choices with an emphasis placed on exploring and identifying students' best-fit optionsAssist in the implementation of statewide college access and success initiatives including, but not limited to, Path to College Events, , TN FAFSA Frenzy, etc.Assist with the implementation of GU-Tech initiatives such as mentorships, expanded work-based learning opportunities, expanded early postsecondary opportunities, and early warning systemsActively seek the advice and counsel of the school administrators, faculty, and community members at assigned school(s)Assist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of a Summer College Experience for every year of the programCoordinate the forming of a district-wide GU-Tech advisory committee and facilitate a minimum of two meetings per year with the committee to solicit feedback and share updatesPerform other responsibilities as assignedMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited universityKnowledge of secondary education requirements, student programs, early postsecondary opportunities, and postsecondary options and planningRecord of working effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and community partnersExcellent interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environmentExperience and knowledge in college access programming such as postsecondary options including admission requirements and processesA strong knowledge of postsecondary financial aid and scholarship programsExperience performing with a high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust while projecting a professional and positive imageSuccessful record of designing and implementing plans on time and within budgetExcellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize objectives and exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activitiesAbility to respond quickly and constructively to changes or unexpected shifts in prioritiesExcellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including software such as Microsoft Office Suite (such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), online systems, and InternetPreferred QualificationsA minimum of 2 years working with middle and high school studentsExperience with student management programs such as Skyward, PowerSchool, etc.Compensation and BenefitsSalary: Commensurate with education and experience. Pay grade 9.Benefits Information: Tennessee Tech offers a competitive benefits package.
