Essential Functions - Responsible for the implementation of GU-Tech services in assigned school districts
- Assist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director with the development and implementation of the annual GEAR UP TN work plan and budget for each participating school system that will successfully accomplish college and career ready benchmarks
- Submit Monthly Activity Plans ( MAP ) and Completed Activity Reports ( CAR ) for all GU-Tech activities for the assigned district
- Attend bimonthly College Access Advisor Meetings with GU-Tech staff
- Ensure the efficient use of resources in meeting GU-Tech goals and objectives
- Assist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director in ensuring compliance with all grant requirements as determined by the U.S. Department of Education
- Participate in GEAR UP meetings and professional development opportunities sponsored by GU-Tech
- Assist in data collection aimed at grant compliance and long-term sustainability of the program
- Establish productive working relationships with principals, counselors, teachers, and community partners in assigned district
- Leverage community resources, solicit in-kind contributions of goods and services, and maintain proper records for all expenditures and grant match requirements
- Assess, in consultation with GU-Tech staff and direct service school personnel, the needs of assigned schools and adapt programs and activities to meet those needs
- Assist with the training and supervision of part-time Tennessee Tech student tutors and college counseling assistants who are assigned to their district
- Implement and coordinate individualized college access and success services by interacting daily with middle and high school students and parents/families. Services will include, but are not limited to, academic planning and preparation, career exploration, tutoring, mentoring, college visits, financial aid planning, summer enrichment activities, summer melt initiatives, text messaging, leadership training, annual orientation events, FAFSA submissions, and college application completion
- Work with school administration to expand a school and community-wide culture of college access and success
- Implement faculty professional development focused on college readiness, access, and success
- Encourage every student to consider a broad range of appropriate postsecondary choices with an emphasis placed on exploring and identifying students' best-fit options
- Assist in the implementation of statewide college access and success initiatives including, but not limited to, Path to College Events, CollegeforTN.org, TN FAFSA Frenzy, etc.
- Assist with the implementation of GU-Tech initiatives such as mentorships, expanded work-based learning opportunities, expanded early postsecondary opportunities, and early warning systems
- Actively seek the advice and counsel of the school administrators, faculty, and community members at assigned school(s)
- Assist the GU-Tech Assistant Director and GU-Tech Executive Director in the planning, coordination, and facilitation of a Summer College Experience for every year of the program
- Coordinate the forming of a district-wide GU-Tech advisory committee and facilitate a minimum of two meetings per year with the committee to solicit feedback and share updates
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in education or related field from an accredited university
- Knowledge of secondary education requirements, student programs, early postsecondary opportunities, and postsecondary options and planning
- Record of working effectively with school personnel, students, parents, and community partners
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high-volume environment
- Experience and knowledge in college access programming such as postsecondary options including admission requirements and processes
- A strong knowledge of postsecondary financial aid and scholarship programs
- Experience performing with a high level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust while projecting a professional and positive image
- Successful record of designing and implementing plans on time and within budget
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize objectives and exercise judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities
- Ability to respond quickly and constructively to changes or unexpected shifts in priorities
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including software such as Microsoft Office Suite (such as, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), on-line systems, and Internet
Preferred Qualifications - A minimum of 2 years working with middle and high school students
- Experience with student management programs such as Skyward, PowerSchool, etc.
