This role involves helping students set educational goals, develop career plans, and overcome barriers to success. The Guidance Counselor will work closely with faculty and administration to support students in achieving their academic and vocational objectives. Key Responsibilities:
Student Counseling & Advising: - Provide individual and group counseling to students on educational, career, and personal development issues.
- Assist students in setting realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
- Guide students through the process of enrolling in appropriate courses and programs based on their needs and goals.
Academic Support: - Monitor student progress and provide interventions when students are at risk of not meeting their goals.
- Collaborate with instructors and support staff to develop strategies for improving student outcomes.
- Refer students to tutoring, financial aid, and other support services as needed.
Career Counseling: - Provide career counseling, including job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.
- Assist students in exploring career options and making informed decisions about their future paths.
- Organize workshops and presentations on topics related to career development and job readiness.
Program Development & Outreach: - Assist in the development of guidance and counseling programs that support adult learners.
- Participate in community outreach efforts to recruit and retain students in adult education programs.
- Maintain partnerships with local employers and community organizations to create opportunities for students.
Record Keeping & Reporting: - Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
- Prepare reports and track student outcomes to assess the effectiveness of counseling services.
- Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
Professional Development: - Stay current with trends and best practices in adult education and counseling.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's degree in Counseling, Education, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in academic or career counseling, preferably in an adult education setting.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including non-traditional students.
- Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using technology for record-keeping and student tracking.
- Knowledge of community resources and services available to adult learners.
Work Schedule:
- Part-time position
- Requires evening availability to accommodate the needs of adult learners.
