About You

You're a self-starting, energetic leader who enjoys being with and mentoring kids (especially high-energy boys) ages K-7th. You are willing to try new things, fail, and try again. You enjoy asking questions, stepping back, creating space for kids to have healthy struggles and master new skills . You are burned out with traditional education models and wonder if disruptive education is the natural environment for kids to thrive as curious learners. You see each child as a genius who has unique passions and strengths with a greater purpose to change the world.

Required Experience & Abilities

  • 2+ years of working with kids
  • Experience teaching kids new skills
  • Punctual, track record of running and sticking to a schedule
  • Ability to meet with owners weekly to tweak the WOM experience and give/receive feedback to make it better.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience running a camp as either a director or senior counselor
  • College athletic experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Entrepreneurial or sales experience to recruit families who align with the WOM vision
  • Creative, self-starter willing to solve problems on the fly

About Us

WOM operates upon three founding values— Passion, Outdoors, and Grit. Think Shark Tank meets Bear Grills meets Mr. Miyagi (Karate Kid). We believe when learners unlock their passion, they flourish and so does their community. Our learners are exposed to real-world apprenticeships like surfing, rock climbing, woodworking, entrepreneurship, culinary arts, film, songwriting, and more. Every learner is unique and our school is designed to customize learning according to the interests and talents of the individual. And it's fun! WOM learners spend the majority of their day exploring the outdoors through adventure. And finally, research shows the common denominator for kids' future success is determined by the level of grit they have. At WOM we see kids gain confidence by committing to challenges and setting goals they see come to fruition.

Scope of Work

  • Run the day-to-day, ensuring we're exploring outside, learning real-world skills, and nailing 2x grade-levels per year in core skills.
  • Prepare our new location set up before school starts (grunt work)
  • Socratically lead and mentor WOM learners
  • Plan the schedule and experiences for learners that overlap with WOM values
  • Connect with, recruit, and schedule with apprentices (i.e. woodworking, BMX biking, surfing, baseball, free diving, writing, theatre)
