The purpose of the Assistant Team Gymnastics Coach is to aid the Head Team Coach and Program Director in the development of competitive program participants through mastery of skills, knowledge of the sport, and goal setting. Participants of all ages on the team should gain an understanding of good sportsmanship, confidence, and the core values of the YMCA.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Participants in the program and assigned teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Serve as a role model to members and Y staff and at all times lives the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement.
* Develop, guide and direct team workouts collaboratively with the Program Director.
* Lead practices of the group(s) given by the Program Director.
* Give participant knowledge to understand and master skills allowing for movement up through team groups. Provide corrective feedback that will enhance participant's techniques.
* Be on deck and ready to go before participants begin practice, to greet participants and parents.
* Communicate effectively with the Program Director about daily practice procedures, emergencies, and information regarding participants and team's well being.
* Ensure necessary equipment is set out and put away for practices and in good working order.
* Assist Program Director with promotion of team participation to advance team growth.
* Ensure safety of participants during practices by following proper precautions and regulations.
* Maintain certifications listed under Certificates and Other Requirements.
* Adherence to all policies and procedures of the YMCA of the Iowa Mississippi Valley.
* Understand and follow all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
* Regular and timely adherence to respective schedule/meetings.
* All other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
* Minimum 1 year prior gymnastics team and/or coaching background/experience
* Must have an understanding of how children learn, while having the ability to communicate clearly and directly with them.
* Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with the Program Director, other YMCA staff, and team parents.
CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be able to pass background check
* CPR/First Aid/AED certification*
* Mandatory Reporter*
* Note: The * noted certification training programs must be obtained within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified. Some are available through employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to routinely perform the physical activities as dictated for a gymnastics coach to include but not limited to being able to run, climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand, walk and perform moderate physical activity for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp and perform repetitive motions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see close and far range and hear. Must possess mental alertness, problem solving and task management skills; ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to small children and program equipment. The noise level in the work environment can vary from quiet to moderate depending upon the number of participants and activities occurring in the facility. This position works in a variety of environments, which can include, but are not limited to, pools, sports complexes, schools, and gymnasiums.
