Job Description:
WHAT YOU'LL DOSeakeeper is the world leader in vessel stabilization and our gyro products are world renown. As our Gyro R&D Manager, you'll take over the development and improvement of the technology that makes our products great. This is a highly technical product with custom developed controls, hydraulics, and electro-mechanical systems. We also leverage various manufacturing processes optimized around our unique functional requirements and geometries, and leverage volumes uncommon for a machine of this complexity in the marine industry. In this role you'll have endless opportunities to further your own technical knowledge as well as the ability to meaningfully impact the marine industry by:
  • Becoming a Seakeeper technology expert across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Identifying technology development pathways and the opportunities they could yield both in success and failure
    • Working with the product engineering team to understand current design limitations
    • Working with suppliers to understand current manufacturing limitations
  • Creating and communicating a coherent short-term and long-term strategy for expanding product capabilities
  • Constructing a team of the top-notch engineering talent to effectively meet the demands of our long-term strategy
  • Participating in technical discussions and documentation reviews, promoting a data driven and growth focused culture
  • Facilitating and managing timelines and weekly goals for the project teams
  • Developing implementation packages providing proper background, engineering calculators, and design rules allowing the product development team to implement R&D findings into next-generation products
  • Hiring, developing, and managing a team of multi-disciplined R&D Engineers with various tenure
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEEDDo you have a positive attitude, an eagerness to learn and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment? Then Seakeeper is the place for you! Here are a few other things you'll need to succeed.MUST-HAVES
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • 7+ years of product development or product facing R&D experience
  • 2+ years of R&D project ownership or engineering management
  • 2+ years of direct people leadership experience
  • Senior level technical contributor with a demonstrated ability to contribute at the system level of product design
    • Must fully grasp technical trade-offs of design scope decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate discussions and reach compromises amongst other senior engineers
  • The ability and patience to take complicated technical problems and present them in a digestible and non-misleading way to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience communicating timelines, goals and budgets to project stakeholders
NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
  • Expertise in mechatronic and/or hydraulic systems development
  • Experience working in R&D in a managerial role

  • This role will require an onsite presence of 4 days per week minimum in Leesport, PA
  • Relocation assistance will be provided, if applicable
  • You'll report to the Director of Gyro Engineering, also based in PA
  • On-the-job technical resources and training will be provided (we will help you become a Seakeeper expert!)
YOUR TEAMOur Gyro R&D Manager will oversee our Gyro R&D Team. This is one of the most experienced technical teams at Seakeeper and is comprised of engineers with varying backgrounds and specialties including hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, software, controls and more with a heavy emphasis on collaboration and data driven decision making. This team executes projects through an Agile workflow that allows maximum exposure to a variety of projects and systems within the group.
