Position Type: Elementary Teaching/Physical EducationDate Posted: 11/21/2024Location: Hillsboro Elementary SchoolDate Available: 12/16/2024Closing Date: 12/04/2024County: Pocahontas County Schools CERTIFICATION: Applicant should possess or be eligible for West Virginia certification in the areas of health and physical education, grades 1-5. In addition to appropriate certification and/or licensure, criteria to be used is contained in 18A-4-7a of West Virginia Code. ASSIGNMENT: Provide instruction to students as directed by the principal. To deliver a comprehensive program in accordance with state law and WV Board of Education and county policies and regulations. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Implement the program of study(standards) approved by the West Virginia Board of Education and adopted by the county Board of Education. 2. Teach knowlege and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports utilizing curriculum designated by the Pocahontas County Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. 3. Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowlege, and strategies of formal sports, game, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement and structure the class so that learning occurs while students are being physically active. 4. Work collaboratively with staff members and other physical education and/or health teachers in planning and implementing a balanced wellness program. 5. Aid teachers in understanding and implementing appropriate practices for physical activity, health and /or wellness. 6. Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the physical education/health/wellness curriculum to the needs of each student to encourage students to develop individual skills to the greatest extent possible. 7. Plan practice opportunities that are structrued for maximum participation(e.g. individual partner, and small-group activities, non-elimination activities, activities that require no wait time). 8. Establish and maintain standards of student behaviour to provide an orderly productive environment in the physical education areas. 9. Effectively organize, space, equipment and students for optimal learning. 10. Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of student. 11. Maintain care/ responsibility for school-owned equipment to prevent loss or abuse maiking minor adjustments and requesting repairs to euqipment as required. 12. Inventory equipment and maintain proper condition and storage of equipment,materials, and supplies. 13.Evaluate each student's growth in physical skills,knowledge, and contribution to team sports. 14. Prepare for and provide opportunities to participate in school, local, and regional competitions, contests and events as appplicable. 15. Evaluate each student's growth and understanding by assessing each indivdual's contribution to class. 16. Actively participate in PLC's, collaborative teams, and grade level meetings. 17. Utilize county approved online learning platforms to post grades, take attendance, enter discipline, and post assignments daily. 18. Establish and maintain standards of classroom management that foster a learning environment. 19. Provide individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and motivate students. 20. Maintain professional work habits and responsibilities. 21. Maintain and upgrade proofessional skills. 22. Meet all professional repsonsibilities. 23. Work in cooperation with the building principal and staff to support programs throughout the school, including but not limited to, school assemblies, open house, parent meetings, ceremonies, and/or seasonal programs. 24. Collaborate with other teachers to meet the goals of the school's strategic plan. 25. Anyone accepting this position is mandated to report suspected abuse and neglect. 26. Utilize instructional mangement system models that increase student learning. 27. Demonstrate a deep and extensive knowledge of the subject matter being taught. 28. Communicate effectively with the educational community and parents/guardians on a regular basis (learning platforms, email, and phone) 29. Complete and submit all reports in a timely manner as required by law, the West Virginia Department of Education, and/or the county Board of Education 30. Report the presence of any situation that may be harmful to the health and safety of the students and/or staff. 31. Implement state-mandated assessments required by the state (Ex. Fitness Gram). 32.Promote, encourage, and assist with school-wide and community wellness activities, as well as any activitiy that promaotes physical activitiy. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Effective date of employment December 16, 2024, term of employment being 112 - 1/2 days for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year, Term of employment shall be 200 days each year thereafter.
