American Hardwood Industries is seeking qualified candidates to learn to grade lumber at their Amissville VA facility.Sustainable, versatile, and visually appealing American hardwoods are important to the global economy and are found in many of the items we use and interact with daily; flooring, furniture, and cabinets to name a few. Demand for US hardwoods has remained strong for decades.Each board that is sawn from logs receives a grade according to globally recognized grading standards. Grades indicate board quality and provide the basis on which lumber is produced and traded throughout the world.Lumber graders are a key component of the hardwood value stream and, as a result, experienced and capable graders are respected and well compensated in the industry.If you are interested in a new career with high earning potential in a high-demand, specialized position, apply here to join AHI as a Hardwood Lumber Grader Trainee. Starting pay ranges from $17.50 - 19.50 per hour during the training period depending on work experience and qualifications. Trainees will be evaluated for potential increase after 60 days based on progress and overall job performance.Qualifications:
- Basic math skills - ability to estimate percentages based on visual input, read, and interpret data from measuring devices
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Dexterity - ability to manipulate boards to inspect both faces as needed
- Ability to learn to see and recognize various aspects of natural wood character and manufacturing quality
Experience working with wood or in the wood industry is not required.
