Position Title: Harm Reduction Team Member

Reports To: Director of Harm Reduction

Position Summary:

The Harm Reduction Team Member will collaborate with the Marion County Police Department (MCPD) and Overdose to Action (OD2A) local partners to manage and maintain a community alert system. This system uses an anonymous text platform to notify Marion County residents about potential risks related to disruptions in the illicit drug supply. In addition, the Harm Reduction Team Member will organize and execute pop-up events in high-risk areas, offering harm reduction materials, resources, and connecting individuals to appropriate care. This role will support the CHARIOT program's administrative and outreach efforts, overseeing event logistics, data collection, and volunteer coordination. The coordinator will ensure smooth communication and data tracking for harm reduction programs while facilitating essential outreach activities.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration & Community Outreach

  • Manage and maintain the anonymous text alert system designed to notify Marion County residents of potential disruptions to the illicit drug supply.
  • Coordinate with OD2A partners and other community organizations to gather relevant information and facilitate communication.
  • Conduct local outreach, including posting flyers and providing promotional materials to community partners to encourage sign-ups for the alert system.
  • Schedule and coordinate harm reduction pop-up events in areas identified through alert system data.
  • Manage event logistics, including staffing and volunteer coordination, and ensuring best practices for event security.
  • Oversee distribution of translated program services materials for events with large Spanish-speaking populations (minimum of 5 hours of in-person services per grant requirements).

Event & Security Coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute pop-up events, ensuring harm reduction materials and resources are distributed effectively.
  • Develop and implement best practices for event security, particularly for pop-up events in areas with high foot traffic or heightened safety concerns.
  • Recruit and organize staff and volunteers for pop-up events and kit-packing events to support the harm reduction team.

Data Tracking & Reporting

  • Collect and organize distribution reports from partners and community organizations, including demographic information such as gender, race, age, or zip code.
  • Analyze reports to identify underserved areas and populations in need of additional resources.
  • Oversee distributor reporting and ensure accurate data collection on harm reduction activities and outcomes.
  • Maintain data tracking systems to support ongoing harm reduction efforts and ensure timely reporting to stakeholders.

Program Support

  • Support the CHARIOT program and other harm reduction initiatives at Overdose Lifeline including kit-packing events and community outreach efforts.
  • Strategize key areas where outreach is needed and collaborate with local partners to plan pop-up events.
  • Manage the SOAR Text Alert system and oversee fees and related costs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, or a related field or equivalent with experience in community outreach, program coordination, or harm reduction.
  • Experience working with law enforcement and community organizations is a plus.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collect, manage, and analyze data.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Passion for harm reduction and community-based public health initiatives.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and collaborate effectively with community partners.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evening and weekend events.
  • The Harm Reduction Team Member will work both in-office and in the field, with frequent travel to event locations in Marion County.
