Introduction The Department of Health Services (DHS) , Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for a Harm Reduction Unit Supervisor for the Bureau of Community Health Promotion (BCHP).This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week and will be headquartered at one of the DPH central or regional offices . Position Summary As the Harm Reduction Unit Supervisor, you will be responsible for the leadership, planning, development, direction, management and supervision of the Harm Reduction Unit, which encompasses statewide programming to improve health outcomes for people who use drugs and other high-risk individuals.Responsibilities include:
- Leading the design, development and implementation of programs to decrease harms associated with drug use.
- Supporting evidence-based harm reduction strategies and principles in all program development.
- Overseeing the coordination of funding to support harm reduction service provision in the state.
- Supervising, managing, and directing Harm Reduction Unit staff that includes public health educators, epidemiologists, and community outreach specialists.
Additional duties include administrative, fiscal, liaison and reporting activities of these programs, including activities associated with securing and implementing funding that supports the programs. The Harm Reduction Unit Supervisor has lead responsibility for overseeing and writing the Overdose Data to Action in States federal grant application and progress reports, managing contractual agreements and allocating funding resources. You will also function as a liaison with other state and federal agencies and serving as media contact in matters of Drug User Health data.
Salary Information The starting pay is between $42.00 and $44.33 per hour (approximately between $87,360 and $92,200 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Health Services Supervisor and is in pay schedule and range 81/03.
Job Details All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.For positions that allow remote working flexibility, working outside of Wisconsin or in bordering cities will not be allowed except in extremely limited circumstances due to the need to report to an office location in Wisconsin on short notice.Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee's headquarter location is not provided. Qualifications Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience in a lead or supervisory role performing duties such as coaching, training, hiring, performance monitoring, etc.
- Experience establishing and maintaining working relationships with individuals and groups of diverse interests.
- Experience with public health grants including writing applications, performance reporting, grant management, or budget management for various projects and programs.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience working on or coordinating federal grant projects including preparing reports, budgets, performance reports, and news releases.
- Experience with planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs.
- Experience interpreting policies, laws, research findings, or best practices pertaining to harm reduction principles and strategies directed at high-risk populations (e.g., people who inject drugs, people who smoke drugs, etc.).
