The
Waldorf University Athletics Department is seeking qualified and interested candidates for
Head Cheer Coach. Waldorf is a member of NAIA. Successful fulfillment of Cheer coaching responsibilities includes, but is not limited to strong organizational, communication and leadership skills; recruitment of quality student-athletes, instruction of techniques and fundamentals, mentoring, retention of student-athletes, a commitment to ensuring strong atmosphere of the student-athletes' academic progress including monitoring student-athletes' progress toward a degree; community involvement; attend all staff meetings, and any other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Ideal candidates will have collegiate coaching experience at the NAIA level, proven ability and desire to recruit quality student athletes (especially from Iowa and surrounding areas), and a commitment to the development of individuals and the team. This is a full-time, benefit eligible and primarily 10-month (August through May annually) position with limited time commitments during June and July to complete any ongoing recruitment activities, attendance or representation at orientation day and Athletic department fundraising event(s), as well as monitoring responding to email or messages as needed.
Coaching Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to): responsible for all phases of the cheer program in a manner compatible with Athletics Department and Waldorf University philosophies.
- Demonstrate strong organizational, communication and leadership skills with athletes and University staff/faculty;
- Recruit quality cheer student-athletes;
- Provide instruction of associated skill sets, fundamentals, coaching skills and psychological skills training;
- Schedule practices, events, and competitions, including travel arrangements when necessary;
- Coordinate wtih Strength & Conditioning staff for team workouts;
- Set and maintain a high standard of compliance with all NAIA and institutional rules and regulations at all times for self, coaching staff and athletes;
- Meet administration, mentoring and retaining student-athletes goals:
- Monitoring annual sport budgets (fiscal responsibility) and fund-raise;
- Organize and manage camps and clinics;
- Contribute to department through active participation in meetings, serving on committees and any other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
Requirements - Bachelor's degree preferred
- Coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred
- The selected candidate will represent programs/University in a positive manner. This includes being a positive role model with appropriate behavior on the sidelines.
- Must be able to work as a team member, be self-directed and willing to serve as a goodwill ambassador for Waldorf University Athletics.
- Possess experience working with diverse students and staff.
- Ability to organize and motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level in sports and academic achievements.
- Safe and clean driving record
