Job Title Head Coach, Cheer (Part-Time) Position Purpose
The Cheer Team Head Coach manages all aspects of the Cheer program with emphasis on recruiting, enrolling, educating, retaining, and graduating highly qualified student-athletes. The Head Cheerleading Coach is responsible for tryouts, pre-season training, all games, practices, and workouts during football and basketball seasons, including post-season play, if applicable, competitions and any necessary team travel. The Coach will promote the Club Cheer Team on campus, especially at athletic events, while encouraging the members to publicize the team in new and creative ways to expand membership. In addition, the Coach ensures the program is operated with full commitment to compliance regarding institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
Essential Duties Summary
* Administers and develops all aspects of the Club Cheerleading program.
* Coordinates weekly rehearsals and oversees all cheerleading practices and performances.
* Conducts practices in a professional manner.
* Communicates regularly with membership and team leadership to ensure success of the team.
* Provide for choreography need of the team, either through direct choreography or by coordinating and obtaining outside choreography.
* Mentors and leads student-athletes to augment and sustain retention rates.
* Creates an appropriate academic culture for Cheer Club members and provides adequate academic monitoring, support, and counseling for student-athletes.
* Manages the Club Cheerleading budget while exercising full fiscal responsibility.
* Generates annual fundraising revenue to supplement additional program needs.
* Coordinates and oversees all team travel and recruiting trips.
* Evaluates equipment and uniform needs, manages existing equipment, and uniforms, and purchases new equipment and uniforms, as needed.
* Manages the student participants by reinforcing commitment to academic standards necessary for participation.
* Ensures the balance between needs of the team and time away from campus for practices and competitions.
* Coordinates and manages multiple social media platforms to promote the team.
* Effectively supports team and departmental discipline procedures.
* Coordinates team community service projects.
* Supervises and mentor's assistant coaches.
Required Qualifications
* Previous secondary school/collegiate experience working with higher education undergraduate population or adolescent/young adult individuals.
* Experience with and knowledge of instruction and choreography
* Must be able to create and teach this to participants of all skill levels. Must also be able to instruct proper safety and stunting skills as specified by AACCA Safety Guidelines.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Strong recruiting skills at the college level.
* Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage a competitive college program.
* CPR/AED certifications required within one month of appointment
* Flexible hours. Travel Required. Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications
* A minimum of three years of demonstrated recruiting and coaching experience and success at the college level
* 2-4 years of college-level playing experience
* Master's degree is preferred
