(HCZ) is a multi-site, multi-program community organization that provides a unique and comprehensive interlocking network of education, social and health services, and recreation to more than 26,000 children and adults in Central Harlem. Many of the children HCZ works with go to public schools and attend its engaging after-school programs. Whether in its Promise Academy charter schools or public schools, HCZ's high standards and expectations are the same for all its children-ensuring that all of them are on track to attend college and successfully graduate. HCZ's overarching goal is to create a tipping point in the neighborhood so that children are surrounded by an enriching environment of college-oriented peers and supportive adults. Nationally and internationally recognized for its early and progressive intervention programs, HCZ has been lauded by The New York Times as one of the most ambitious social-policy experiments of our time. The Promise Academy Afterschool program is an extension of Promise Academy day school. The program provides 500+ students in grades K-12 a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that fosters self-confidence and personal and social development. Students are exposed to a variety of fun-filled project-based learning, developmental, and high-caliber enrichment activities, which include arts enrichment (e.g., performing, culinary and visual arts), tutoring, homework help, and academic intervention support, as well as health/wellness and physical fitness education. Additionally, students are engaged in leadership development activities, including student government, character education, and conflict resolution, and participate in several team sports and recreation activities, including basketball, volleyball, and soccer.We are seeking a part-time elementary (grades k-5) facilitation coach. The ideal candidate will assist with developing a high-quality elementary athletics program, collaborate with other coaches regarding their specific areas of expertise, and provide overall effective leadership.Essential Duties and Responsibilities• Develop, implement, and execute the athletics curriculum• Create a program that will include daily conditioning, fundamental drills, and a strategic playbook• Communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and parents• Monitor and report on student progress and performance both in the classroom and playing field• Collaborate and consult with staff on student performance in various athletic activities and schoolwork• Maintain ongoing communication with Athletics Program Director • Develop positive relationships with students that promotes wellness, growth, respect, and self-esteem• Act as a positive role model for students• Perform other duties as assignedQualification, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements• A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ• Experience working with youth and adolescent population• College degree and at least 2 years of coaching experience• Must have strong knowledge and a keen understanding of various sports• Ensure the various athletics curriculums are structured and have clear learning goals • Solid understanding of youth sports and safety guidelines• Must be able to travel to away games or events• Must have strong leadership and organizational skills, excellent writing and communication skills• Positive, enthusiastic, collaborative, flexible, and approachable attitude• Ability to effectively engage and motivate students• Must be able to work 3 pm to 7 pm, Monday - Friday, and Saturdays 11 am to 1 pmThe compensation range for this position is $25-$30 per hour.
