Head Golf Professional
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under general supervision, Head Golf Professional is responsible for overseeing all operations at the golf course. This includes organizing tournaments, managing
staff, maintaining facilities and equipment, promoting play, and developing marketing strategies. The Head Golf Professional ensures that all activities
are conducted efficiently and in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Plans, organizes and administers a comprehensive program to provide leadership and
direction to the Golf Course staff; interprets the goals and policies of the City Council under the direction of the City Manager or their designee. Based on the duties and responsibilities outlined in this job
description, this position is considered safety sensitive.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Directs the planning, preparation and administration of the department's annual budget.
2. Recruit, hire, and train staff members, ensuring they are adequately prepared for their
roles.
3. Oversee scheduling of staff and manage time off requests.
4. With guidance from the Accounting & Finance department, ensures compliance with
all laws, rules, and policies related to cash and fiscal management.
5. With guidance from Human Resources department, ensures compliance with all laws,
rules, and policies related to personnel management.
6. Maintain facilities and equipment to ensure they are in good condition and ready for
use.
7. Organize and coordinate tournaments and events for charity or promotional purposes.
8. Promote play at the course and develop strategies to maximize utilization and
profitability of the course.
9. Order and maintain inventory for the pro shop, including golf clubs, balls, apparel,
shoes, accessories, and other merchandise, and strategically price inventory to
ensure proper rotation of goods and appropriate profit margins.
10. Create and implement strategies to boost food and beverage sales by finding new
opportunities, offering unique options, and setting prices that attract
customers and improve their experience.
11. Report and analyze retail performance against budgetary goals and suggest improvements where
necessary while collaborating with the Accounting & Finance team to manage
inventory reports and reconcile financial data.
12. Manage daily operations, including setting tee times and coordinating staff duties.
13. Develop marketing strategies to increase public awareness.
14. Advertise to promote the golf course.
15. Manages the purchasing and inventory control of parts, equipment, and supplies for department.
16. Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of the golf cart fleet.
17. Ensure players follow course rules and maintain a pace of play.
18. Assist in monitoring course conditions and relay issues to the Golf Course Superintendent.
19. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting, marketing, business administration, finance, etc. required. Equivalent to a four-year college degree, plus 6 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Class A Certified with the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) required.
